Hey guys, just wondering…is it true that unsanforized denim actually gets heavier when you do the initial soak? I've read, for instance, the 18oz denim on the 666S becomes 21oz when it gets soaked. Is that true? If so...how exactly does that happen? Any scientific reason, or is it just how it is?

Fibres contract, causing the denim to shrink, become more dense, and therefore weigh more.

As Mega said, but as the shrinkage is only about 3% then 18*103% = 18.54 not 21

That doesn't mean your jeans will go from weighing, say, 1.3 kilos to weighing, say, 1.6 kilos. The weight is based on a square yard of fabric, so when the denim contracts after soaking, it becomes more dense and weighs more than a square yard of the same fabric prior to soaking.
Your jeans are already cut and finished, so they don't get any heavier, just smaller and slightly thicker.

So my friends daughter, age 21, got into London Metropolitan university.
She'll need a affordable place to live near University. Ofcourse they are checking campus facilities etc. but I promised to ask advice-guidance-help also.

The break in on GT's can be rough, but I have serious doubt over the durability of Indy's as an actual work boot, I've seen some that look absolutely mangled after a couple of months "work" wear.
For a great compromise why not just hit eBay and pick up some decent condition, second hand, SD's?

Tommy (being 6 and hyper-active), covers his IH jeans in various stains every day, mainly grass and food. So, my question is this, should I….
A) Lightly wipe down the more disgusting stains every night, and generally leave him to trash the jeans as he sees fit?
or
Wash them properly at the end of every week to stop them becoming too vile, and have other parent stare at me for making my son wear what appears to be blatantly dirty jeans?
