      @Chris:

How did I miss that Epaulet has another run of the Thorogood horsehide boots?

      Damn, these are pretty.

You can bet your ass they will go on sale just like everything else in that store. I would wait to grab them if I were you. Surely come Spring, the price will drop.

      @adam313:

This question is probably for Giles:

With my ihsh-08ss, I have worn through a part of the stitching on the hem on the inside front of the shirt (the part that touches my jeans).  Some threads on the hem around this area are now beginning to come loose on the outside of the shirt (We're only talking 4-5 stitches, so not the whole hem).

I have not washed this shirt yet.  With my SR's, it is recommended to wash so that the constructional stitches can "bed-in".  Does this same phenomenon apply to sanforized clothing?  If I wash my 08, will the stitches be less likely to shred or fray?  Or is my situation simply due to the nature of heavyweight fabric (its beginning to happen with my ihsh-34 as well)?

It just sucks that I'm going to have to get a tailor to re-hem the shirt eventually.  And what's worse is that the chainstitches on the inside near the armpits are weakening and beginning to loosen.  I was looking at one of my dad's twenty year old Timberland chambray shirts that has been washed maybe a hundred times, and there is not a single shredded stitch.  😠

I could answer, but I am going to let G field this one.

I'm trying to decide between a Red Wing boot and a Thorogood boot. Any advice on fits, durability, how good the brand is over time. Thanks.

To a great extent this is due to the stiffness of the denim, it make the stitching sit proud.  Personally I would just get it run over by a local tailor, it won't harm the looks of the shirt at all….

In the absence of the 666-xhs, and with the upcoming "Give-Giles-The-Rest-Of-Your-Money" Sale, my next question is:

            634S-B or 634XHS?

Similar measurements (28W), similar detailing (no selvedge fly, no belt loops in waistband, no lined pockets), similar status (Extant), different denim. But how different?

What would you do if you could only choose one?  I'm leanin' towards the 634S-B…

Not really a fan of overdye, so it's an easy choice.  Besides, the 25 oz denim is more unique & interesting.

Incredible response everyone.  Thanks to all of you!  I have never had the privilege of experiencing either of these heirloom quality items in person, so today is exciting for me.  5AM MST in New Mexico, USA (Midday in Gosport) will be intense, hope I can be quick on the draw!  Good luck…

Hello everyone - New member from the UK 🙂

I have a few questions about jeans and I wasn't too sure where to ask - so I hope here is ok. I have recently been trying to improve the quality of items in my wardrobe. I'm an 18 year old student and for the past few years I have dressed like an average student (high street shops, Levi's jeans etc.) but recently I have saved up most of my wages and I'm now looking to spend. I have been researching the best brands for clothing items and have discovered your website 🙂 My questions are the following:

                            • I notice a lot of people in the various threads I have browsed wear their jeans most days of the week, is this essential to getting an optimum fit? This isn't really an option for me until June as I am still in school doing A levels until then and have to wear uniform. After June I plan to go to university - so can wear jeans whenever I want. is it best to wait until then to purchase?

                            • I am a 28" waist - 32" inseam and I'm looking for a slim fit. I don't want the jeans stuck to my calf's but I'm after something inbetween straight and super skinny. As I have never owned heavy denim before, what style, weight and size would you advise me to consider? I could post pictures of jeans I own & like the fit if it helps?

                            • And finally, What do you consider to be the best way to care for your jeans when not wearing them? I'm guessing a hanger, but would certain materials leave markings on the denim etc?

Sorry for asking quite daft questions, but as I am looking to improve the quality and fit of items in my wardrobe, I also think it's quite important to improve how I care for them.

                            Thankyou to anyone who replies,
                            Tom

no, wear them as often you want, not a problem at all…

                                Hiya Tom!..

You might've noticed that the IH UK store has a sale going for the next 4 days: discount of 12 % on all items… Maybe not a bad idea to buy some jeans right now!..

Most of us wear our jeans almost continuously, or in rotation with another pair, just because we're dirty feckers!.. The others are just lazy... No, honestly: breaking them in takes a while, and after that I guess they feel so good you just don't want to take 'm off... Right now I only have my IH-666-XHS as jeans for the colder season, so they get worn 5-6 days/ week.

I just hang my jeans, using a hanger with two clips. Never did anything else, seems to work...

If you're looking for a slim fit, basically the 666S'es are your best option. But hey I'd love to see some fit pics of your fav jeans!.. If you're a sz. 28 in Levi's (or any other lightweight jeans) your actual waist might be bigger... Best is to measure the waist of your best fitting pair!..

                                  Welcome Tom, good name  😉

As for the style/ fit you are describing, I would go for the 666 devils fit in 18oz raw for your first venture into Iron Heart, really nice, slim cut jeans and the denim is fantastic. I have the Beatle Busters in the same denim, which aren't quite as slim cut.

If you want to try super heavy then the 666XHS (25ox denim) might be good, but perhaps not for your first heavy jeans.

I'll leave it to those who own the 666 to advise you whether to go true to size, or go up one or down one.

Happy purchasing, and a great weekend to do it, there is currently 12% off  😉

I agree with the others on the 666 recommendation.  As for care, don't stress about it.  You're probably worried, since they're more expensive than anything you've owned prior, but really, they're just jeans.  I hang mine by the waistband from a hook on the closet and when I feel like they're dirty, toss them in the washer and dry them in the dryer.  No big deal.

Just wear and enjoy.  Oh, and welcome to the IH world.

Unfortunately the 666S don't have any 28" in stock - and I'm not sure if a 29 will be wise if it will go up to a 30 after a few months (Like Giles's). Will they be coming back in stock any time soon? They look awesome.

                                        Thanks again  🙂
