The (Less intimidating) Watch Thread

@Danimal506 I think if I was gonna get another G-Shock I would probably get that one, tough solar, radio control, and still looking good after 10 years of daily wear - what's not to like
looks good man -
@Matt I never knew you could have just one of them.
-
@ChrisC Thanks! Yea I love the radio control timing. I impress people when I tell them it connects to a signal every night and is super accurate haha.
-
@Matt pretty cool watch.
-
who got in line for one of these then?
From the constant posts I saw I thought it was going to be a watch

Very excited about this. There are so many fun details for the discerning eye. I love the idea that it's a real Swatch and keeps with their mentality of fun and interesting watches for everyone. If they made it round instead of octangular and took off the AP moniker, I'd love it just the same. Using the RO design just adds another layer of fun detail.
I don't believe it detracts at all from the real Royal Oak. It's not meant to compete. It's meant to be a fun toy. Just like a kid's Ferrari Power Wheels doesn't detract from a real one. There are people who buy a RO for the horology and design, then there are those who buy them for a status symbol. I believe only the latter are mad about this release and those people's opinions aren't worth listening to anyways. If this watch hurts your feelings... good.

I love that the watch head pops out of the frame just like the original Pop from the 80s. There are already aftermarket bracelets for the head to pop into; again keeping with the original 1980s Pop.
I love the whole idea behind System51. For those non-horology-nerds: Typically in horology it's a big flex to have the most complicated movement, both because of the engineering but also the high price tag. Swatch said "lets figure out the LEAST number of parts to create an automatic mechanical," and that number was 51. This will be the first System51 that is manual wound instead of automatic, which makes it thinner keeping in the theme of the Royal Oak.

This is from wristbuddys. It's their aftermarket strap for the Swatch head.

I don’t disagree. I think it’s kind of fun. If I somehow ended up with one, I’d probably throw it on an aftermarket bracelet because I definitely wouldn’t wear it the way it’s being sold. That being said, I’m absolutely not waiting in line for one, and even with a toned down color like the dark blue or purple, I just don’t see myself actually wearing it over the watches I already own. To me it’s more of a novelty or conversation piece than something I’d genuinely reach for.
Honestly the funniest part is watching grown men camp outside malls for what is basically a Royal Oak Tamagotchi.

-
This doesn’t do anything for me. I’m sure some will be excited for it butI’m not sure if the combo of pocket watch and a $400 price tag will work out for sales. I’d get another Moonswatch or the Blanc Pain before I got one of these and even then only if there was a wrist add on option.
-
@northsouthdenimguy Agreed. It's a total novelty. I think that was the whole idea. The part I find the most entertaining is watching grown men melt down over something that's meant as a novelty.
@Matt I have 3 of the moonswatches and I think I MIGHT trade one for one of these. Only if I could keep the other two. Love my blue Blanc as well. It would be a toss up between those.
-
@Go-For-Chill agreed. People are really really upset about this. If you have an AP that’s great. This doesn’t diminish that and if you think it does then fuck off, you don’t get it.
These watches are not omegas or Blanc Pains or APs. No one is trying to sell them as such. They are Swatches made using Swatch materials and colors. The inclusion of these names is meant to highlight that these are all under the same parent and can take advantage of that to create some fun SWATCHES. The haters should chill. But that’s not what haters do I guess.
