Is it not possible/advisable to use canvas duck (or some other kind of indigo-dyed fabric) for the waistband? That will prevent the waistband from stretching after wearing the jeans.

Personally, I prefer jeans with minimal waistband stretch.

I think if you wear a belt, your jeans waistband will not stretch any bigger than the size you have your belt tightened to… At least that's what I think common sense dictates, but I could be wrong.

Hiut's have an internal canvas waistband on their jeans. It doesn't retard waist stretch on them.

Why don't others also use the same thing? Apart from difference in fading, I don't see any difference the canvas waistband will make.

If everyone made their jeans the same way, that would be boring, lol!

But really though, if you buy your pants with a 32" waist (for example), and you don't want the waist to stretch past 32" you only need to wear a belt that is tightened to 32".

Stretch of the waistband is smart in my opinion. It stretches to your personal size so it gives a better fit to a greater range of body shapes and not just to the ones who are lucky enough to have the exact body measurements needed.

Having no destination, I’m never lost.

Which is precisely why denim (a twill weave) became so supremely popular for jeans….It stretches, moulds and drapes to the wearer's body shape....
