Another bonus, bigger pockets. More specifically, the back ones. Have enough room for my flashlight now 🙂

Finally dug these out of the closet and put them on for the first time today. First time ever wearing denim with the double-front engineer thing but I'm digging it. Very comfortable from the beginning and I can't wait to see how they evolve! The hem is slightly large - has anyone had these tapered?

I was thinking of having them tapered a little @Manticore as I usually only wear this and my 822 with boots as I normally wear smaller sneakers like cons and vans. Before I do so I gave them a hot soak and slight wash as to see if I can get any shrinkage and the denim was looking shiny due to wear. I didn't do a pre wash measurement but came up with one leg at 9.5 and one at 9.75. Surprised they were off, but I don't care.

I have sent three pairs of IH to finecar for tapering, which they did a  good job. I usually get 36 sometimes 35, these are 36. I rather have these and the 822 slightly larger than my other pants and jeans, but just a hair bit too big. Still tossing up if I want to get them tapered to a 9" hem. Worried about the lines of the second layer looking off a little then.

I need to get a lot more hard wearing on these…

If you like these, the 822 is even more comfy to wear and fades beautifully. Enjoy

Thanks @Jordonf9 for the info. I assume you meant Railcar for tapering right?

I may just wear them a bit before deciding on tapering. I do need them hemmed though - since there are a bit lighter weight I'm debating making the trek to SELA for chainstitching or just having my local place hem them.

I actually originally wanted the 822 but they were out of stock and, since they aren't extant, I went with the 821 instead.

How much stretch are you getting in these?

@Manticore yes railcar fine goods. As for give/stretch, the 21oz is a looser weave and had quite a bit of give compared to he 16oz sbg. It is a tighter weave but a little give. These are the loosest jeans I wear, both versions, so I didnt need any extra room or stretch really. If you ever plan on double duck(I am fortunate enough to have the loom breakers), get a looser fit as they have almost 0 give….wish I gave an extra .25" in all areas.

I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen you on the forum for a while. Now I know why, you've been too busy beating the living shit out of your gear!

I picked these up at the Kanreki. In their unworn state, they look almost respectable, unlike @Haddtoo 555's rather abused pair. 🙂

They feel pretty stiff, and I think that they're going to need some wear to break in.

Incidentally, the double knee ends roughly at my kneecap, and when I kneel I'm onto a single layer of denim. If these are re-run, I'd suggest extending the reinforcement another 3 to 4" down the leg. I don't know if the IH-822 pattern is any different, but the same might apply there.

I've found the same issue with my 821, and all the carhartt, dickies, etc. double-knee pants I've ever tried. Really, four inches is all it would take, and I do t think it would bother those who don't really need it.

These are a bit short on me as well, on the other hand carhartts hang well below the knee on me,  even if I pull up my pants  🙂

I snagged a pair of these during the Advent Calender sale. They are now my current fav. I feel they must be under-rated as they are endangered. My first impression is marvelous so hopefully they will at least be replaced with a different fabric and color.

I see some have complained about the short double knee and I was a bit worried about that but I was hoping they were as long as my double kneed Logger pants and to my surprise and delight, they come down well past my kneecap about 4 inches… Just like my logger pants. Excellent! Maybe they changed the design and didnt mention it? I dont know.
