Is there a joke in there? I’m not sure I understand.
I believe he's referring to a joke/saying…"I'm not gay but 20 dollars is 20 dollars"....meaning I'm not gay but hey I'll do anything for money. It's on T-shirts, hats, anything else you can think of. Must be a US thing.
So I'm guessing that in this context he's using it to say that he really wants the jacket and would do anything to get it?
A picture of a guy wearing a shirt with that on it was my avatar for 2014. Truly a classic.

So, the shorthand would be "I'm gay for money" or in this case, the awesome jacket that @Giles just wore in a rodeo.

Damn that’s a lot of patina in a short amount of time!

I'm guessing the shower sped that up immensely, though Giles is epically rough on his gear.

Doing God's work. Cheers!

Obenauf didn't appear to darken the color much, which is kind of a surprise. Did you notice any significant changes?
-
It will be interesting to see if that affects the way the natural leather changes color. One of the nicest things about this leather is how it ages into that gorgeous dark honey color.
-
I know this was an experiment, but what would be the best practice for caring for this leather?
-
I think probably the occasional application of horse oil (mustang paste) with a sponge. I'm also thinking that this may have been a better route to go than Obenaufs….
-
I don't know if this is true but I heard that you shouldn't use oil or paste on this type of leather until you let it get "tan." I heard that the oil will make it harder for the leather to let the sun darken it over time. Sort of like sunblock for your jacket. I don't know how much I believe that but it seems like it could be a possibility. If only there was a fourm where I could ask such questions!

@AdamJ Please could you measure the IHJ-526-22 sample that is on the rack in the new office and post them here for @Dstauffer . Thanks, G

My experience has been that oil accelerates tanning.
