The Flat Head

I’d 100% size up and have something that I can actually wear (and will conform to my body), rather than something that’ll look great in pics but can’t practically be worn. Horsehide will crease and ‘shrink’, but won’t stretch and get larger.

I had to size up to a 42 in my double rider jacket, the 40 was too short and a little tight. I’m a medium in IH.
I wanted to be able to layer a shirt or sweatshirt underneath and there was no chance with the 40, but the main thing was the length for me.

@NickD Nice, thank you. I see your post up there and that is the 42? Fits you like a glove. I like the idea of a leather jacket, but only being able to wear a Tee under it limits it's use in my opinion. Normally if it's warm enough for only a Tee, then it's not really leather jacket weather...or is it always leather jacket weather!?
@Kasi thanks for the comments, I see most guys my height and weight wear a 40 but I really can't imagine it's going to loosen to the point where I can fit a shirt or a sweater underneath it.
Cross question to IH leather Jackets: Does a M IH leather = 40 in the Flat Head? Anyone able to comment on that?

@BalticBob yes, that's the 42 in my pic above, there are some other pictures in the WAYWT thread. I'm probably lucky that the 42 works for me whether I layer or not.
If possible I'd try more than one jacket as well, the fit will be different even between the same size and brand - when I bought my double rider I tried on 3 or 4 42s, and the one I bought was the smallest of the ones they had available.

@BalticBob Depends on the model of the Flat Head. I’d say that the single rider has wider shoulders, a slightly narrower chest, and a narrower waist than the IH equivalent size. The Flat Head Type 2 fits slightly looser in all dimensions. Can’t speak to the J24, but the IH sizing and fit appears much, much looser than the equivalent Flat Head numerical size.
