So I put in an application for my Residents Return Visa, and it's issued to me within a minute. 😃

Looks like I don't have an excuse to go to Fish and Chips. 😢

If you've got the money to by a jeep or 4x4 at least invest in driving lessons to learn how to park the thing you pricks. If they are indeed a 'status symbol' then your (facebook) status must be 'lifelong committed dickhead'…having tried to park a car today with a 74 year old victim of domestic violence as my passenger, only to find available parking spaces being taken up by huge knobhead wagons taking up 2 spaces 😠

I sense You’re holding back. Tell us how you really feel  😉

The problem in the UK is most people learn to drive in a tiny little hatchback, and parking is a minor part of lessons and the test.

It is, apart from the Fish 'n' Chips excuse being no more. 😞

Incidentally, the cheapest flight to LA involves a 14 hour layover in Fiji. I think that might fall into that's good too.

i don't think the size of the vehicle is an issue. have you tried parking in asia? the parking lots there are way smaller and yet people still drive huge vehicles that can park. compared to western countries where they spaces are much bigger and people take it for granted..

try virgin. on the right day, usually tuesday or wednesday, they can be real cheap. and on thursdays when they release their fare deals.. definitely cheaper on the east coast than west..

The problem in the UK is that people buy ice white Audi 4x4s and black range rovers with blacked out Windows, but don't come equipped with either a brain or sense of social responsibility.

Basically, work was cancelled for the day for Shirtless Lager in the most public manner possible.

@der Anschiss there was a time when this phenomenon only seemed to apply to skinny 17 year old reprobates and fat 53 year old football hooligans. It now seems to apply to every other male and his grandfather

                        so here goes:

around the end of april, i got a call for an interview. it's a position based in melbourne. they wanted to do an interview on the 2nd of may. she wanted me to come in for an interview and i told her i couldn't as i was based in perth. i asked to do a video interview via facetime and she said that's fine saying she'll send out the email confirmation and to call her back if i didn't get it. whoever the hiring person was, took forever to send out the email confirmation for it. now, it took about 2 days over that last weekend in april and calling her back a couple of times before i received that email.

now interview date all set and on the day, unfortunately, their inventory director or the person i was supposed to have an interview with was sick. she sent an email that morning informing me and that she'll reschedule soon. duly, i replied her saying it's a bummer and i hope to hear about it soon.

i haven't heard from her in a couple of days and it coincided with my road trip (see dwc2) as well so i left it for a week and emailed her about the rescheduling, which was this week that had just past. i've tried calling her as well but she's kinda hard to reach. however until today, i've yet to hear back. granted it's a sunday so i'll probably have to wait till monday.

now here's my dilemma. i really want this job but at the same time, i do not want to come across as utterly annoying. i usually give 3 days before i follow up on anything i do. in my mind, i've given her till monday before i'll call her again. my fear is that i'll never get that call/ email back. i mean, i do not want to come across as overly desperate but this is quite a good opportunity that came knocking..

moving to melbourne kinda takes planning as well. and i would love to stop the guessing game in my mind as to the short term future till the year ends.. this is kinda frustrating not knowing anything from them and not being able to plan out the next couple of months..

In my opinion, following up promptly and often isn't evidence of desperation, it merely shows your interest and commitment. I would, however, be disappointed if a potential employer was disorganized and seems not to be putting in the work on their end to get things done. That may be evidence of either less interest on their part, or even worse, a lack of professionalism that could point to bigger problems it may not be worth it for you to deal with.

Anyway, if you truly want to pursue the opportunity, keep at it! Being conscientious and showing interest isn't bad–it's good. Especially if it seems like that's the only way to get results.

Keep at it. They probably have 100's of resumes/potentials and aren't well tracking you as an individual. As someone who looks at, at times, 100's of resumes a week, everyone blurs together. It's up to you to break through and become the person. They won't even care that you're following up - you're making it easier on them. Might be worth a short day trip to mlbs is all I'd say

thanks for the response. it's good hearing that you guys don't think that it's over annoying or sounding desperate (in a way, lowering your bargaining chip) to constantly contact them. i suppose the follow ups can only show that i'm being proactive rather that sitting around and waiting for things to happen. i hope for the better in the coming week..

I'm going to be overseas until the end of the month. If you need somewhere to crash before then, I could always check with my girlfriend if it's OK to stay whilst I'm away.

I'd say the opposite. A lot of my friends have either moved interstate or have come to Adelaide from another state… we may not do it as regularly as Americans may do but we don't have 50 states to choose from.

i wonder if it's just an eastern states thing as compared to the whole of WA. i know that my cousin had moved a few times between NSW and VIC. it seem like a lot coming from WA but it's probably not and that's because, like what you said there's not 50 state and it seems like ages away..
