Working on restoring this old Singer. Today further disassembly, cleaning and calibration. I have not tested it yet on IH stuff but I saved 2 pairs of old 501 with it. So it’s capable for worn out thin denim.

@Karol Take a look here (and the following posts)

        https://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum//post/562773

I have one very similar to that, but has no foot pedal (which either yours has, or has been after-marketed with a motor)

I've use mine for 44 years and it will spit on anything I throw at it.....

@Giles yours is such a beauty and even older specimen!
You were spot on regarding the foot pedal.
Here you have mine in all its glory, I just replaced the leather transmission belt.

              Beatiful Singer!
Sure G. was pointing to the Singer Database which I found very helpful. Looks like yours is from 1927 and in great condition.

@Aetas thanks for pointing it out! I missed the hyperlink to the database while looking at that early post linked by @Giles
Indeed, it seem to be from 12 of February 1927.
Regarding the condition, on the surface it’s really OK but certain parts have seen plenty of wear after the II world war and it was not really serviced since the 60’s causing even more wear as it was used sporadically with no effort to tune or clean - It was just supposed to work as my mother used to say.

I'm having some trouble with this frayed pocket, can anyone recommend anything that can be done to prevent this from getting worse? I just had to cut away a load of loose threads... I was going to ignore it and just embrace the wabi-sabi, but I feel like it's gonna get real bad unless I do something about it.

To add to this, it's not just aesthetic wear. The inner stitching has completely perished, causing a separation between the denim and pocket lining. Trying to minimise further damage by resisting the urge to put my phone in the rear pocket as I have always done..

@T4920 - what about a leather piece/overlay patch similar to what the vulcans have on the front pocket - I have carried a pocket knife my entire life and the front pockets always get that issue on denim. The leather knife guard is brilliant and I wish it was an option for all denim tbh

@iammortalcombat ah that looks cool! But i'd have no idea how to do something like that, and I very much doubt such modifications would fall under the IH repair guarantee.

@T4920 probably not, but consider looking locally for a leather worker. If you want a laugh, really dedicated cosplayers who make their own stuff are 1000x better than most of my local tailors. Those folks have learned it to make fantasy reality, not just to maintain standard clothing.

It won't take much for this to pop open and become bigger. even though I have seen a photo if you want myself to fix them at IHUK, can you please fill this form out, just so we have a record of what needs repairing. https://www.ironheart.co.uk/content/wear-and-repair
