Slightly unusual suggestion I suppose based on the calibre of the books usually posted here but, my partner and I have been reading the “Dungeon Crawler Carl” series this year and (aside from the fact that it keeps us spending time together despite her living 600 miles away) I think it may well be one of the most enjoyable works of literary fiction in existence.
If you’re ever looking for a bit of escapism that won’t talk down to you and doesn’t take itself too seriously then I cannot recommend this more enthusiastically

I wanted to get into that one but LitRPG is not for me. Much respect for the writer and all his success. My recent obsession is Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Children of Time series. On the latest, 4th, installment and love them and the narrator’s lovely English accent and character impersonations on Audible. Great sci fi for the nerds.

@sabergirl I couldn't agree more! Please no spoilers as we're only on book 7 at the moment

Horrific.
Thank you so much for recommending this. A tough read, but I am so glad I did.
I will look for more like this.

Never read any John Irving before, but picked this up from the shelf of books to read at the resort we are at....
I am really loving it. Beautifully researched and written and his characters amazingly well built. I keep wanting to read out sections to any poor sod who is close to me

@Shaun
Yep. I’m about to start book 7. Finished 6 about two weeks ago while waiting for the emergency vet. Timing of events in the book kind of hit hard with life. -

A lovely book; arguably the most undemanding protagonist I have ever read about.

@endo I couldn't agree more. I've read all of his books now (he only ever wrote 3!). Each is different and each is sublime.
