    @fanya:

    I'm in MN waiting for this lovely deep freeze to warm up some so I can finish working on my van.  As soon as that's done I'll be heading to Montana for a few weeks to ski it up, hoping to get some good snow at some point 🙂

    Where are you planning on going in Montana? I've had a great time at big sky in the past, and have been meaning to go to Bridger bowl for a couple of years. Hopefully more snow coming this way soon, as I say that we just got 13cm overnight in fernie, so I'm sure Montana is on the same train.

      thanks for creating this thread Jeff…great move!

      so after my move to switzerland and years and years after my last ski-session, i'm now looking forward to hit the mountains every now and then!

      bought some gear already (x-post) and now i'm on the look out for a helmet and some goggles!

      @Finn666:

      …
      went on the hunt for skiing gear today. came home with this (and some more functional shirts for under the jacket), both items from Salomon:

      Salomon Sideways 3L Jacket

      Salomon Sideways 2 Pants

      anybody know something about Pro-Tec skiing helmets?

      especially about the pro-tec riot…

        I use Smith Maze and IMO best goggles made are Smith IOX

          I can't say I know much about the protec helmets. I'm currently using a Scott helmet with a MIPS lining. It's a new type of protection being used in bike and ski helmets that is super light, and much more effective when it comes to protecting your skull. POC does MIPS as well if you are into their aesthetic. Worth checking out for sure

          Edit: I can also second the smith iox. My girlfriend has them and it is all I can do not to take them when I walk out the door to go ride.

            talking goggles…is there anything i need to worry about (unless the fact that they need to fit along with the helmet)?
            any reason to chose a certain type of glass (color) or anything else?

              I like your gear Finn, well played.

              The hills here are so weak I don't even wear technical gear half the time. If I fall down on these groomers I might as well stay home.

              Think it, be it.

                If you have a lot of flatter light where you live a softer lense (rose, light blue, yellow) is going to make it a lot easier to see differences in snow texture and contour. If you're somewhere with lots of light then you need to start getting into different lenses. I live in a place where I rarely have need for those lenses, so I can't even think of the colours to be on the lookout for off the top of my head.  Beyond that, make sure they have got venting and that you don't get goggle gap and you'll be set

                  The IOX come with two lenses. 1 dark for sunlight the other pinkish for foggier condition (I mainly use the pink for everything, unless it's crazy sunny out)

                  These will never fog ever!!!

                    Getting some cross country action in today, and starting to plan some trips to go snowboarding.

                    This is shaping up to be the best winter I've had in a few years…

                      Skied my local mountain last night. I frequent their 4 times a week. Last night was so icy I could have gone down the trails on ice skates. I was so pleasantly surprised how my Volkl Kendo's sliced through the ice. Very impressive no chatter and very grippy. Outstanding edge hold for having a 89mm waist. Unless you have skied the east you will not really understand what I am talking about.  East Coasters are not spoiled like you West Coasters and Euros.

                            Better than nothing, or even than how flat it is here. We get the most amazing powder you can't do shit with.

                              It gets icy out west. It's called boilerplate. That's a west term that you don't here in the east.

                                    hahahahaha, all i have is an atari 2600, don't think any winter sports were on the consoles back then  🙂

                                    i do admire you snow bunnies for going out on those little toothpicks down a snowy mountain fast as hell. i don't want to go out like sunny.  y'all got some balls as any thing i do not have control over scares the sh!t out of me . . . yes, i'm scared of a bunch of stuff.

                                      We are talking about different kinds of conditions. I have been everywhere between Hood & Whiteface. Including some of my faves A Basin, squaw, black comb and mad river. We are talking different animals here.
