Don't bother with inversion to begin with, it's overly fancy and doesn't make a huge difference. Make it as it says on the box and you can't go wrong. Add some good/fresh single origin beans roasted for filter, ground for aeropress (larger than espresso), and you're on your way. Great christmas present - lucky you!

Interesting, I much prefer inversion actually and don't find it to be difficult.  I also don't do my ratios as done on the box.

              Think it, be it.

When starting out with all this 'stuff' that's more difficult than paying someone $3 for a coffee, keeping it simple to begin with makes it less confronting, reduces potential frustrations and complications ruining the result. There's a bit of 'stuff' to learn around the process and grind. Inversion adds a few more steps (2), it's a little off the beaten track (not a lot).

Agreed. That was my approach to start, followed the instructions. Perhaps because I got familiar with that, trying inversion seemed pretty easy when I tried it and I've stuck since. Now I just play with grinds, temps, blooms, steeps, etc. AP is awesome.

I'm looking for a programmable drip coffee maker that brews into a carafe. We've had a 10-cup cusinart for years and it's ok, but the carafe isn't working so well anymore and we're starting to look for a new machine or maybe just a replacement carafe. Any suggestions?

Haven't had any coffee since Christmas due to coming down with a bacterial infection. Going to wait another week or so and start back up again. Can't wait!

Edit: finished antibiotics a week ago and feeling a ton better!
