Watches - another OCD problem

They are and always have been… and I know that the elite brands can lag on technology, and that it's about the finishing and all that. But no matter how much they become jewelry, watches in my mind are first and foremost instruments. So in my view the power reserve is improved, yet still not elite, and to have just received a quickset date is nuts. Then again, a lot of great watches don't even hack seconds. I guess my values are just different.

I hear you on that, @mclaincausey. I didn't know that quickset wasn't a thing until now for the RO when it was mentioned in the press releases. My 50-year-old Rolex has a power reserve just shy of the RO's 50hr reserve (48hrs) and has hacking seconds (new for this watch when it was releases in 1972 and irrelevant for the RO) and quickset wouldn't come to the DJ until 1977. Either way, I'd expect a 60-72hr reserve as well as hacking seconds and a quickset date at the minimum in a contemporary release.
I guess it doesn't matter though as I'm most assuredly not in the market for an RO anytime soon, even if they were readily available from ADs.

I understand that I'm a broken record here but … that Blancpain is absolutely perfect. The bezel, bezel font, dial, size, movement: it's all just as it should be. I even like the hands, too! Having never seen one in the metal, how thicc is it, @Giles? Does it pair well with more tailored shirting? Currently drooling at that pic here in San Francisco

The Speedy is undeniably more dressy. But the Blancpain just feels like an extension of me….
Let me just add. One of my closest friends knows more about watches than most mere mortals know about themselves. I asked him what watch I should get, he asked me a few questions about my lifestyle, and the answer was "50 fathoms, and don't dick around with crystal back - a major point of failure"

I used to have a true behemoth: a Breitling Superocean that was 43.5 mm and 16mm thick (or something like that). A hockey puck on the wrist. I actually had a custom dress shirt made while I owned it and had the cuff made XL just for that wrist
Sounds like the BP isn't as hefty. Would love to see it IRL if you'll have it on you next weekend in LA! -
Speaking of hockey pucks! My wife decided to surprise me with something I’ve eyeballed for a long time but couldnt justify…. an MR-G. We went with kachi-iro colorway because it goes with my blue and black wardrobe the easiest and IMO is just beautiful.
