RE:LOVE - Repurposed — Iron Heart, Reimagined
-
@Lynne Do you dig the placemat idea specifically? I know it may require much more material so I wasn’t sure how realistic it may be.
-
@worn2fade aaah, I can see they’re placemat size now. I feel they may be too fabric hungry for what I have and ergo too expensive for people to buy, especially as they’d probably want sets of them. But I can see that if we had rolls of fabric and flannel for lining that these would be easy to make. If I get an influx of Relove pieces (shout out to people to send in their worn shirts and jeans
) then I’ll keep this in mind for sure.

Excuse my indulgence in this thread, but I wanted to show you a pair of beautiful old sewing chairs I rescued from a friend’s factory this week.

They may look like this now, but I have high hopes of transforming the upholstery into something like that created on this chair of dreams. I will be stitching together the tiniest scraps from my own personal fabric stash and then, if successful, potentially creating small cushions for Relove.

Could this be the most beautiful chair in the world?!
-
@goosehd I’d like to feature curvy designs such as waves/interlocking circles around the curved edges and plain running stitches with some crosses in a heavier thread for the base as this seat will need to be hard wearing. So, a very simple base, like the chair shown - and then something more decorative for the seat back perhaps using a threaded stitch for more texture (I never use a seat back, so it can be less rugged). Not too much as the chair and fabric speak volumes already. I’m not an upholsterer, so I’ll probably build straight on to what’s there as it’s all metal underneath. I’ll post updates once I’ve gathered the scraps and drawn up the design.

A new take on the Swatch bag. Instead of being made from hemming offcuts, this one is made from a pair of jeans. As such its original patch is sewn on.
This one also has a logo’d Tshirt for the lining - the heavyweight material works perfectly.
Haraki San was playing around with it the other day and immediately turned it inside out to look at the inside. We all agreed at that point that the bag looked as good inside out, as outside in.
On top of this, we can now offer this as a bespoke piece for you. If you have jeans and an old Iron Heart shirt or Tshirt, we can make your own (very) personal bag. Message for details.
Oh, thank you to my glamorous assistant!

@Lynne I'm not sure if this is possible, but we found this denim pot holder a year or two ago and use it all the time, but would of course love to see an IH version made of heavy denim. It's already a bit worse for wear. The challenging parts would be: 1) need a thick, insulating material sewn in behind the denim, and 2) as you can see, we've caught the handle-facing edge on fire a few times so I think a more fire-resistant material piece right there would make sense - maybe a nice piece of leather?

Any details on the hats? Kilties might be cool too
-
@MM yes, we’re just finalising finished sizes.
Our most common sizes are
- Large to fit 59-60cm
- XL to fit 61-62cm
How does that fit with you?
I am working on a cap, but firstly there will be a few bucket hats in Relove denim and flannel lining coming in March.
We’ve been discussing kilties internally. I’m going to look at our Wesco ones tomorrow alongside some remnants of natural horsehide we have, and see if we have anything that works.
Do you have a particular style in mind eg do you prefer the split tongued ones, like our Wescos, or a rounded edge?

@68degreesorless I wouldn’t have any fire resistant material in Relove, but we do have some scraps of natural horsehide and natural buck.
(I’ve been working on a buck-backed coaster today
)I’ll have a think!

@Lynne
That sizing sounds fine, will stay tuned for more.On the kilties, I didn’t really have anything in mind at first, it just seemed like a nice but relatively easy way to utilize some denim scraps. Though now that I think about it, having a snap near the bottom could be neat; throw an upgraded silver snap on there, that’s probably what I’d opt to do.
