Yes aside from the flannel lined duck "work pants" for next fall, I would really like to discuss a great pair of summer shorts, I'm thinking cargo I'm thinking loose fit but with interesting features, maybe a double seat, obvious colours are navy and khaki.  I just find I never have enough pockets in summer due to wearing tee shirts only and I destroy the shorts on rocks and what not.

No, but doing a "Perfecto Style" or "Lancer Front" is not an issue…..

Cleaner lines are more favourable IMHO.

So consider CHP style, without epaulets.
Or go for proper D-pocket ….

Really not a fan of schott… Please no
          Just my 2¢

I'm interested on your thinking here Scroogen. I really like Schott, they are still family run, and the very definition of an American heritage workwear company in my eyes. I wanted some information on an old Police leather I had, and was answered by Jason Schott, which was great.

          Ok, sure I'll bite.
First off I'd like to state…. family shmamily.  Levi's is family owned too, get over it.  I've been in stores around Massachusetts that sell varieties of leathers for motorcycles.  Every Schott jacket I've ever seen feels like fashion leather to me.  It becomes really apparent when it's sitting next to a jacket that feels like it would actually protect you as a motorcycle rider.  Do they make some nice stuff? Sure, I bet they do.  Is their number one focus on quality and offering protection to riders? No. I don't think so.  Maybe in the 40's/50's but guess what, it's the year 2012 and the world is a different place.  Check out the Vanson website.  It looks like shit, but you could probably kill a small family with one of their jackets.  Check out the Schott website and ask yourself who is advertising and who is making some fuckin jackets.  It would be laughable to me to go from Aero leathers to schott NYC, unless you're really after that 'look'

Ok, on the family thing I think you'd have a hard time getting the personal touch from anyone in the Levis family that I got from Jason Schott…especially as I hadn't actually bought a product from him, so that appealed to me. I guess there's familys and familys.

Schott have a long history of professional motorcycle wear suppled to the military, and Police all over the USA, is what they make to day as good, definitely not, but they do still make "some" quality gear, as it has always been made, and where it has always been made. I'd agree that most of what they do these days is fashion over function, but so? Thats only a bad thing if you think it is, which is just perspective I guess.

Schott are not the company they once were in terms of quality, and my main accusation to them is that they sold out their company name too quickly, with overseas manufacture of their sweatshirts, tee shirts, and cheaper garments (made in Turkey I believe). However, their heritage and history is what makes me have a bit of respect for them, and the people who still work at the original Schott factory in New Jersey still turn out some top quality gear.

My old Police issue perfecto was made of tough, thick steer hide, I sold it to Downunderguy and regret it most days. Same as this one….

            http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-1950s-PERFECTO-SCHOTT-BLACK-LEATHER-POLICE-MOTORCYCLE-JACKET-COAT-/271059097219?nma=true&si=44419Ek2%2F%2FdVND4RZd5RkaDupn4%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

….I've tried on most quality leathers (including Aero), and this stacked up very favourably on all counts.

I guess we're never going to agree this issue man, but life is all opinions  🙂

It's really cool that you were personally helped out by a member of the Schott family, but my point was that family owned doesn't always mean much of anything, and sometimes can even be used as a marketing tool…  My problem with Schott is this.  They have so much heritage and history like you say, but I feel like instead of taking it to the limit and making the absolute best product they can make they ride on their name and on marlon brando's nuts.  They can advertise how they used to make awesome shit until my ears bleed, but if I'm looking for a NEW jacket... I won't be looking at Schott.  I'll concede that a lot of the old stuff is quality, but from what I've seen in stores I was far from impressed and I've also seen some shit from them that is just really tacky (I know, subjective)

21oz Type III jacket with the "bi-swing" shoulder form from the Rider jacket.

Probably too much to ask but I LOVE the shoulder action in that construction.

They still make some decent riding jackets. I suppose most stores won't stock them. The horsehide and heavier steerhide jackets are OK for riding…
