      PN-0056 - Papa Nui - Z-Special Watch Cap - Olive

Papa Nui Z-Special cap is a faithful recreation of the World War II cap comforter. The cap-comforter is an ingenious and perplexing design to the uninitiated. It is essentially a tube of knitted wool that is sewn together at both ends. So when it is completely unfurled it is a short scarf. When one end is tucked into itself and worked through to the other end and folded over, it can be worn as a double-layered knit cap.

I found a vintage one of these in the bins at goodwill once, but I let it get away because I didn’t know what it was. Dang.

How long is this when it's completely unfurled?

If one were to remove both stitched shut seams, would this unravel? Wondering if this could also be used as a neck gaiter with that modification.

It’s a big tube of knit wool that you stuff within itself, so if you were to cut both ends to make it a gaiter you could no longer use it as a cap. I can take pics of mine if you like. It lives in my M51 where it pulls double duty mostly as a scarf and occasionally a cap.

Dang! You can find them on occasion online and they usually arent terribly expensive although the Papas is more comfortable IMO.

Thanks, will keep an eye for the measurement. I know cutting it would defeat how it was designed to be used, but a tube is much more useful to me and can still be worn as a head covering in many different ways.
