Poraso I have not tried although many swear by it. I use Mitchel's Wool Fat, and find that the lather is thick and slick and it does not disagree with my skin. 🙂

Just ordered a Feather togther with Feather blades and I am very curious.
To compensate for my rather thick stubbles I added some alkaline Dr. Dittmer cream.
Actually I am also using Proraso and will try that first…

Good luck with the Feather. They have a rep for being incredibly sharp. I don't use my Feather portable because I have sensitive skin and don't want to look like the guy from Hell Raiser

Started with shitty multiblade razors, to safety razor(which I still use at time and is a great way to shave without having the upkeep/sharpening) and now I have a Theirs Issard straight razor. I already had a decent range of whet stones and strops to keep it as sharp as possible (with my skill level that is). From factory, though it said shave ready, wasn't. If you aren't used to sharpening, honing etc. Read up and watch videos. There are a lot of techniques people swear by. I sharpen my edc knife the same as my straight razor.

As for my knowledge in all my pomades…as many tests as my hair grows, I found the best thing is volumizing mousse and then adding pomade. Really gives my hair volume and wanting to stand up, so pushing my hair to my side gets my desired look. My two favs now are the mentega clay and first hand clay. Both are seriously amazing products, apply easy as hell, style easy as hell, have great texture, don't dry out and last all day and even for 2 days. I think the first hand has slightly longer durability, just.

The best clay I have used in my life. The past few months I've tried about 10-12 Homebrew company Clay's, paste and creams, this just hits all my marks perfectly, which the Mentega comes real close, but first hand slightly out performs it in strength and durability.

I picked up a Rex Ambassador stainless steel adjustable razor a few months back.  Very nice shaving tool. I believe the design was based on old Gillette Fat Boys and Slim model razors.  With the adjustable blade depth setting this can go from mild to aggressive.  It is good for shaving off a few days worth of stubble.

For daily shaving routine I still use the Feather AS-D2 as it is very mild and offers a quick shave with minimal risk of cuts or razor burn, and this is with a feather blade which are not known for being an "easy" shave.

Shear Revival is one of my favorite pomade brewers and Crystal Lake is one of my favorite pomades from them.  They brewed a small batch of CL shave cream so I got that plus this awesome craft aftershave from Historic Brands.  The scent is Italian Soda.  It’s wonderful…

Shear Revival is so great! I love the Crystal Lake, and the Loyal Sea Clay is super nice if your hair gets a little longer and you want to have something a little lighter that still gives you some control. My hair's properly long now so I'm not using any sort of pomade type stuff, but as soon as I eventually cut it all off again, it's back to SR.

Was just about to post a thread for shaving soap recommendations. I'll browse through this thread. I bought a bunch of Mickley Lee Soap a number of years ago and am just now running out. Looking for a replacement soap or two. Leaning towards Mammoth House, but question is which scent? Mood Indigo seems like a necessity to pair with some denim, based on name alone.

The Dr John’s x SR Crystal Lake is nice.  I’m not sure if it smells exactly like the pomade because this my first jar since they changed the scent, which bums me out.  I freaking loved the prior scent.  I feel like their new approach to all natural fragrances is leaving them all smelling basically the same and a little weak.

I don’t know much about shave soap.  I’m going to get a Supply cartridge single blade for myself for xmas so I’m just now getting into the accoutrements.  The Italian Soda aftershave is the shit though.  I’m def going to try the other 3 scents.  They’re all barrel aged.

Hey @Matt,
Thanks for posting about Shear Revival. Wasn’t familiar with them till I saw you comment on their pomades. I prefer my grooming/hygiene products all be made by the same company, if possible. I know, weird. Something about the fragrances and packaging/branding being the same/similar.

I just received my order from Shear Revival of ‘Loom’ shampoo and conditioner. ‘Ora’ all natural deodorant. ‘Saw bones’ oil for my beard. ‘American Gardens’ pomade and ‘Loyal Sea Clay’ balm. I’m loving all of it. Just need to find some beard/face wash. Recommendations anyone?

Also, Shear Revival has a ‘summer sale’ going on now thru September 6th.

@Kirk after seeing your post, I went and checked out Shear Revival and really dug their products.  Ended up getting their "Loom" shampoo and conditioner, as well as the "Gray Ghost" cream pomade, which has an incredible scent and I love the texture.  Stuff showed up today and I was super happy with all of it.  Kinda wish I'd gotten the "lazy bones" combo, but there's always next time.
Thanks for posting up the sale info

I really just started getting to know pomades and really using them in the last year or so. I started with, King Snake, not a fan. Tried Lay-Rite, it was okay and then got on the Ruezel train. I really like some of it but would love to find better if it’s out there. Matt or anyone else care to compare some of these latest suggestions to Ruezel I’d be really grateful. If it helps, I really use the Grey tin of Ruezel, super high hold but still easy to wash out, ie water based. FWIW My hair is stick straight and needs some serious grease to keep it where I want it LOL
