Photograph and Camera talk
-
hi everyone, i'm new to photography and thinking of getting the sony A7C II. I will take mostly street / travel photos so do you think 35mm prime lens is a good choice or go for a zoom lens?
-
It's all personal preference, but for a long time now I've preferred shooting with prime lenses over zoom. As for if 35mm or whatever, it just depends on how you see scenes most often. I used to be a big fan of 35mm but now it's one of my least favorites, always feeling not wide enough or too wide. I guess that's why a lot of people like it as a single lense kit.
Certainly though, that camera and lense will be an amazing starting kit for someone new to photography, but you could also go much simpler/lower cost to start like one of the older x100s.

I shoot a Nikon F4S with a multitude of lenses. I usually shoot Portra 400 or HP5.

@SFMCfranky Interesting composition.

I was sitting on the couch, drinking my morning coffee. It was just there.

@SFMCfranky Sometimes that's how some of the best shots happen,but you did have the presence of mind to pick up your phone and take the shot. I'm a strong believer in the old adage "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take"

@AllAhoo so sorry I’ve been away, but you said if. Got great use of it on the trip, too! Here’s a handful of shots from the Great Ocean Road. Shot with the Fuji 100 from Japan.

@SFMCfranky the colors in this are so nice!
-
Thanks! But I can take no credit for that. It was a calm, sunny, pandemic morning. Right place, right time.
-
@alexxedge really nice shots.
-
@ROman thanks! Was so stoked to finally use the Fuji 100 I got in Japan. Special film for a special trip.

Not many places I feel like I can share this but I just wrapped up my first paid shoot!
