I can’t see how the seam could be unpicked and excess removed without reducing the width of the pocket and also running into problems with the copper rivet.

You’d have to start below that, from the bottom of the twisted section of the seam, about six inces below the waistband. Unpicking isn’t a problem. This is why you need to talk to a tailor though. It is quite a big job and there will inevitably be some necessary compromises to be made, but a proffesional will know the best way to go about it.

Got these off @Sirihc in January. Had them tapered and put them to work. Gave them a soak last weekend.

All this 634 tapering is kind of a waste IMO. I would rather buy the cut that works best and start from there.

634 has the best top block IMO, leg opening is just too wide for me. £30 for a taper and I got a great fitting jean. No brainer

This is a tricky discussion. I agree with @spitfiredealer that the 634 top block is brilliant. The one time I had a pair tapered I was far from satisfied with the result. It wasn’t a bad job per se, it just wasn’t a pair of IH anymore and they fell strangely too. It also cost a lot more than £30. So for my part I’m inclined to agree with @Anesthetist

I’ll add that a lot of jeans I’ve seen around the interwebz with aftermarket tapering end up looking weird in terms of silhouette and the way they drape.

Hey Giles, I just need to make my final decision about the size for the 634S.

I own a pair of 555-01 tag size 32 and here are the - 4 months of wear - measurements:

                          Waist 17.5
                          Front rise 10.5
                          Rear rise 16
                          Thigh 12.25
                          Knee 8
                          Hem 7

I love the look of this mode (555)l but I do have a hard time for example, getting in the car or going up the stairs two steps at a time. My knees and thighs are a bit restricted.

I would like to order a pair of the 634S but I don’t want them to be too loose. Reading in some posts that they can stretch 2” at the waist, should I get 33?

                          Thanks

Also, I would seriously consider the 888 cut as a halfway between the slim taper of the 555 and the relaxed, straight cut of the 634.

Yep…agree. I usually do wear 634. I think there is a huge difference between 634 and 555. 634 is a true old school straight cut, no taper, 555 is a modern (very) slim cut. If you need more room around the tights but want a narrow hem I would give the 888 a try.

God has blessed you richly, so get down on your knees and thank him. Don’t forget the less fortunate or God will personally kick your ass. I’d love to do it for him, but I can’t be everywhere. Willie Nelson

I dont have much more to add except I agree with these gents about the 888. I own 2 634 cuts and have owned a 555 cut and they are pretty much polar opposites. Both great in their own ways but going from one to the other is a huge jump. But….If you are looking for a straight leg than look no further than the 634. It’s a pretty great cut.

The 888 is pretty versatile in that you can change the look by how you size them. I went TTS and they are a slim but very comfortable pair but next time I want to size  down for a more modern look but with the 888 taper and rise v the 777.

Thanks everyone for your comments, I do want the 634S but I just don’t want to order the wrong size. I saw some post where some buyers wanted to go down a size because they were to big in the top block.

If I go with the 888 cut, I would be going to another slim cut and what I want is opposite to the 555 so I can have different cut for different situations.

                                    Thanks

The 888 is not a slim cut. It is tapered but much wider in the leg than a 555

All jeans will stretch at the waist. Normally about 1”. The 21oz stretches quicker than most and sometimes more.

Measure a pair that you own, that fit well and are worn. Take that waist measurement subtract 1” -1.5”. The result is more or less the waist measurement of your new pair.

I see no problem at all, but I only wear shorts for swimming or otherwise near water, so may not be the best person to ask.
