These are getting maximum rotation time while the weather is still nice and cool. Breaking in nicely, I only notice their weight when they are going on or coming off.

Are the pocket bags on these slightly thicker?

Edit: @Giles did you spec anything different about the pocket bags when you designed these? They feel thicker/more durable and maybe slightly larger? Comparing to signature 21oz of course.

These are possibly my best fitting jeans I've got now... I own the 634 XHS so I loved the fit, but since losing a little weight I went with a W32 instead of the W34 of my XHS

They've been soaked/washed and now halfway dry and fit me perfectly! It's also my tirst time trying this denim although I've worn other "RAW" denim from other brands...

Thanks @Shaun for picking this pair for me 🙂

I'll post pics at some point.

Not sure if anyone else has done this. But did a second soak in hot water today. Then a hot water machine wash gentle cycle (no spin). Feels like it got the rest of the “bulk“ out of the denim. Hung them to dry and now fits like my 14oz 634’s.

@68degreesorless Hi there, I did not design these. Haraki released them as IH-634-21/23 or something like that. I loved the denim (which by the way, was a mistake when Haraki was experimenting with ways to improve the traditional 21oz denim, but he had made it, so decided to do a small run of jeans out of it), but I thought the lot number was crap.

I came up with the name Ultra Heavy Raw (UHR) and asked him to remake the denim. He was not keen, and I'm not sure he ever stocked UHR, but dd agree. Thankfully, because it is one of our best selling denims.

So, I don't think I specced the pocket bag material, though I may have because essentially the second and subsequent runs were a new Lot Number done exclusively for outside of Japan.

I did…Hot soaked them, then did an eco warm machine wash with no spin and hung them in front of a fan overnight. We’ll see how they are today, but I was mainly trying to get a little more shrink in the seat.

@northsouthdenimguy 100% of the reason why I did the second hot soak and a hot water wash. Little baggy in the butt. But as an old man, not too uncommon with jeans these days, lol.

My first foray into UHR, and pretty happy so far.
They didn’t shrink quite as much as I expected. The first soak was warm because I was unsure how they would react. Second soak was long and hot with plenty of agitation. Ended up losing 1.5 inches from the inseam, which suits me well.
Surprised how soft and comfortable the denim has become post-soak; i don’t envisage any break-in discomfort.
My plan is to wash these reasonably often to get low-contrast vintage fades.

Hey all, looking for quick advice.

Got an IH-634S-UHR in 36 (my actual waist is 37). Did two hot soaks, minimal shrinkage on the second. Worn them 10-15 times now.

Waist is still a bit loose. Thigh and seat fit perfect.
Wondering if I should do a 40° machine wash now to try to get a little more shrinkage, or is it too late to matter?

Main worry: if I wait until month 3-6 for the first wash and it shrinks then, won’t that shift the fades I’ve started?

                                Thanks

@WaxeyGordon It depends on how you soaked them. Agitation is needed to get the maximum shrinkage out of the denim. Soaking alone will not shrink them that much.

I typically will soak for about 30 minutes in hot water to ensure they are throughly soaked, and then throw them into the washing machine with a little detergent (I like using woolite dark), hot water, and little or no spin. Pull them out and hang them to dry.

@goosehd thanks for responding. This is my first unsanforized pair so probably overthinking it a bit but don’t want to ruin anything.

So before my first wear, I just soaked them in the tub with hot water for an hour and I agitated them a couple times by hand but not much. Then it was still a little loose so I repeated the same again. Now they are okay but not snug, a little loose if I pull the waist. Since then I’ve been wearing them frequently for a couple weeks.

I want to throw them in the wash now but I’m just hesitating because I’ve already worn them like 10-15 times, so I don’t know if there will be any weird consequences from washing them now since most of the advice here is to soak them and wash them before the first wear.

If I wash them now (after the initial soak and 15 or so wears), would I be ruining some of the fade potential, get any marbling or any weird stuff like that? Probably a newb question but I have no idea how this works.

@WaxeyGordon .Just soak them again for 20 minutes, then turn them inside out and put them in the washing machine no spin cycle. Air dry them and you will be fine.

@WaxeyGordon I'd hot soak them again for 30 minutes then wash, don't just put them in the washing machine without soaking, that's what can cause marbling depending on multiple factors... You've not had them long so washing them wont be an issue with fades or anything this early on

Just make sure you pull them out when they've finished in the washing machine and turn them right side out, I've had jeans marble from just sitting in the machine too long and left weird marks 😅
