      Anyone here into board games?

Got really into strategy games a decade or so ago when everyone I knew starting getting really into Settlers of Catan. Just recently picked up Power Grid and Carcassonne, but don't have a regular group to play with yet, so haven't had a chance to break them out.

There's a local game company just outside of my area called Van Ryder Games, and they make a lot of great solo player games like Hostage Negotiator, Final Girl, etc. that I've gotten really into to play in my free time.

      What y'all into?

      Wants List:
      IHSH-20-Red, XL
      IHSH-208-Indigo Kersey, L-XL
      IHSH-254-Grey Kersey, L-XL
      IHSW-45 Black, M
      IH-526SV 21oz type III, 38 or 40
      IH-777S-SB size 32
      IH-777S-142 size 31 or 32

My wife and I were big into board games when we had some local friends to play consistently with, though unfortunately they've moved away.  We had a board game night with a coworker of her and some others a few weeks ago and it was great fun.  I like a lot of Flying Frogs games, though the really require a group.  Arkham Horror is great if you want to kill a day  😃

        Longest road for LIFE  😎

Oh man, Arkham Horror!  Played that for like 8 hours before people started falling asleep LOL

Munchkin is really popular at our house (technically a card game, not a board game). Bananagrams is a ton of fun (technically a tile game, not a board game).  Machi Koro (without the expansions) is a blast, too.

          Blanket-line all the things!!!

@Joberwocky @Paul9221 Yes! Arkham Horror has been on my list to pick up soon. I recently discovered a coffee shop near me called Game Point (A Board Game Cafe) and they have a TON of classic and popular games from all genres that you can just grab and play while you have your coffee or tea. I've seen people playing it there before.

Arkham is a good deal of fun as long as you've got a suitably patient group…TONS of things to go over

I'm mostly doing solo boardgames now, since I don't have a group to play with. Been really into Hostage Negotiator and Final Girl, as they have multiple expansions and different outcomes so it keeps it interesting. The Final Girl stuff has been CRAZY to watch it blow up on Kickstarter and go for crazy prices on eBay. I lucked out because the company is about 45 mins outside of Nashville, so my local game shop gets in ALL of the stuff regularly, even the Kickstarter bonuses and such.

My wife and I are big on two player games. Our gateway drug into board games was Dominion, which is a great deck-building game with tons of variability.

If you're into Kickstarter games, we really like Anachrony which has a pretty unique post-apocalyptic time travel theme - it also has a solo mode.

Then my favorite, although I suppose it is probably more of a card game than a board game, is Android: Netrunner. It's an asymmetrical sci-fi game that's been around in one form or another since the 90's based on some of the cyberpunk concepts developed by William Gibson's Sprawl series... It's kind of like sci-fi magic the gathering but... cooler. If that piques your interest, highly recommend checking it out.

My group has been playing Detective: City of Angels recently. One player plays as the Chisel (effectively, the games master) and makes choices as to how suspects answer questions from the other players, who play as the detectives. The Detectives are trying to solve the crime first, while the Chisel wins if the Detectives fail to solve the crime before the killer escapes. Detectives who are waiting for their turn can still interact with the game by choosing whether or not to eavesdrop on another detective's question and answer with a suspect, at a cost, so you find you are engaged most of the time. It also rewards thinking carefully about what you know; for instance on the last case we did, I learned by eavesdropping on another player that one of the potential suspects had a particular occupation. Rather than wait for someone to turn up a clue pointing to this suspect's name or where they could be found, or look for those clues myself, I scoured the board for a location where such a person would be employed, and hey presto, I skipped a couple of breadcrumbs in the trail of clues and found him early.

The rulebook seems daunting at first, but I promise the mechanics are really simple once you've done a round or two. Highly recommend.
