@RoxRocks86 many thanks! Kids pants are a great way to get into sashiko repair - there is a lot to be fixed ☺️

@Indigo-Alchemist Outstanding!! Is this something you ordered online?

Edit: Would you mind showing us the reverse (inside) of your repair? Always curious how the other side looks.

@goosehd haha… you got me there, the inside looks like a mess 😅 Still need to practice and it’s challenging for me as I‘m very impatient. It took me roughly 5h to get it done and it was my second sashiko repair that I ever did.

I got this cards and a book from Amazon and watched a couple of videos.

I also figured out that kids pants are though because there is not much space for your hand and needle when going inside 😅

                  Still learning the ropes….IMG_8333.jpeg IMG_8334.jpeg

@Indigo-Alchemist I’m still impressed that your first try looks so good! Always wondered how the back side looked as that’s how I imagine mine would look.

Anytime I end up with a sashiko repair that im satisfied with it usually means I pulled everything out (after getting it 90% complete) and started over at least 1-2 time before I finally finished it

                      Yours looks great

If you sew a temporary (basting) stitch around the outside of the patch next time you can avoid that patch fold ( I've done the dreaded fold SO MANY TIMES)
you just pull that outer stitch out once you are all done

@goosehd I think with some more patience and experience someone get´s the back side also look much cleaner. I also think as long as the inside is not hindering when getting into the pants and does not feel weird it's okay as long as the outside looks fine.

I'm really happy that that my son likes it, the only problem is he grows faster than I get his pants fixed 🙂

@GraemeE oh yes, I have seen that in one of the YouTube videos. I fixed it with needles when I did the hole first but then removed the needles as they were hindering me when I did the pattern part.

It was to much effort for me to fix the patch first but you're right this way would be much better. I also should not have stitched to far within the pattern but I was too lazy to make each star pattern and then cut and knot and move on to the next.

I will for sure try some more patterns and also maybe mix more colors in the future. There are so many cool tings you can do and make clothing even more unique. Also the thought to give those clothes a much longer live is really nice in my opinion.

Maybe it´s also just me trying to get my son into denim who knows 😃

@Indigo-Alchemist fixing clothes is almost byproduct for me at this point

Its one of the few things I find that actually helps me completely clear my mind - as soon as your brain starts to wander and think about work, bills etc... you get a needle right in the finger

It‘s kind of meditative, similar to cleaning boots. You just focus on the task and all the rest disappears…
