Depends on how you like your romance, @endo!

EatIng apple pie on the Swedish island Gotland.

@Molle Can you share a little about that apple pie? It looks so different from what 'm familiar with, and the sauce is also intriguing! Where I grew up (New England, US), it's common to serve apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese. "An apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze." I think the expression and tradition of pairing cheese and apple pie originates from Yorkshire, England, but it's also common in parts of the US.

@goosehd that makes sense, given the proximity of Ontario and the northeastern United States. It’s a lovely combination. It has to be a good cheddar though, in my opinion. Something sharp and old from Vermont. Speaking of which, I just picked up a chunk of Cabot Clothbound yesterday that I’m very much looking forward to breaking into tonight.

@seawolf …and Ontario. Laura’s family was the one who introduced me to cheddar and apple pie. Go extremely well together.
Bummer…left the forum hanging there; we expected you’d also tell us about the requisite squeeze @seawolf mentioned.
-
@motojobobo I have zero clue to what that “squeeze” is. Very curious myself.

It’s a hug.

@seawolf calling this one apple pie is a bit of a stretch actually. Apple cake is probably a more suitable description. It is basically a sort of sponge cake with slices of apple in it. The sauce is vanilla sauce.
-
@Molle looks delicious

More of a, what have you been doing with your past couple weekends? My old man used to have his own landscaping business and have helped him w a number of entry way/deck jobs over the years. We’ve been mulling it over for a little bit now but have been wanting to upgrade my side entry way from its original stone cast stair casing to a small deck. It’s been slow moving but genuinely cherishing the time spent w my pops tackling this project.
Weekend 1
Sawed off the cast iron rails, poured some cement for the foundation and started the frame work for the platform of the deckWeekend 2
Realized we needed to re-route the fucking drain so we got a connector to snake the gutter out the opposite end of the breezeway entry (this took a lot longer than anticipated and worse, required an additional trip to Lowe’s️ but I digress), finished off the rest of the platform frame work and laid down the composite boards.
Weekend 3 TBD but looking like next weekend where we’ll finish off the stairs. Hopefully
