To me it’s about sizing. Wear jeans like they’re painted on & hey presto! Blowout in no time.

@jfive67 Tight areas are sure to break down faster. Not really a problem for me as I wouldn't buy a pair if it bites me anywhere. (Incidentally I'm a big believer in the utility of crotch gussets, but I don't need to get on my soapbox here)

Maybe I'll try a slightly different question: Do you think Iron Heart stands out with its 18oz vintage as much as it does with the 21oz? Considering there are a ton of Japanese repro brands specializing in "vintage" denims, which I just have to point out cost ~$100 less than IH? (Yes I'm aware this is the IH forum, so maybe I can also try this question in more neutral places)

@SuitOfUHF I have worn the 18oz for years and it is one of my favourites. I tend to prefer the 16oz slub, 17oz natural, and the 18oz vintage over the heavier denims that IH has to offer, but that’s me. We also have members here who only like to wear 21oz and up. That is the beauty of this brand in that there are denim’s here for everyone.

Does the 18oz stand out? For me yes and others no. Does the 21oz? Yes and probably the most purchased denim that IH offers and really is one of the first that was offered.

You are on a IH forum so most of the responses will have an inherent bias in their responses. For more neutral unbiased responses, you probably will have to ask elsewhere. Although, we all admit that we have other manufacturers that we like and not really a secret. Many of those brands have quite active threads discussing those likes. Orslow, Ship John, Samurai, etc. Other Brands and Shops

          Is one better than another…

Here’s why I like IH: I know what I’m buying, how it fits, and how durable it is. The customer service from the staff at IHUK is hands down one of the best. When there is an issue, I am able to contact them to answer my questions or seek help. Not many places have that level of customer service before, during, or after a sale. I can’t do that with other brands. Is that worth the difference in cost? Most definitely.

Truth be told, I don’t see a huge difference between the brands regarding pricing, but the brand reputation is unmeasurable making any difference in price a moot point.

Just my $.02 from being around for a few years and my experiences,

Probably has been asked a thousand times but can someone who wears both 888 and 1955 report on how the two compare in daily wearing, not just from a number / measurement standpoint? 🙂

@weftyarn to me the 888 fit is like a more fitted 55 id that makes sense. And alot would depend on the denim

@weftyarn The 1955S-21 thread has a lot of discussion and comparison between the 1955 and 888, starting with this post but scroll up/down as this one is kind of in the middle of the discussion: https://forum.ironheart.co.uk//post/878030. Also the cut comparison tool on the IH site is helpful if you are good at visualizing what diagrams look like in 3D (I'm not lol): https://ironheart.co.uk/pages/cut-comparison.

I can't speak to daily wear experience--I tried on the 14oz 1955 when it came out last year but didn't buy it, to my eternal regret, but I will say the 1955 felt like it had a lot more room in the lower thigh and knee. The 888 feels really slim on me, especially in that area just above/at the knee. Still not sure why I didn't buy them when I had the chance...

@twinning @steelworker thanks guys, the 21Oz 1955 thread was indeed very helpful.

New cut for me, and in the 18Oz , sounds exciting.

But the competition for my wallets attention is tough given the 409 release and the stuff announced for F/W 😅

Patiently waiting for this restock (and also the 1955 - 14oz indigo). Are we still on track for September ‘26?
