I wanted to be flash so I've got a carbon fibre HJC modular (which is super comfy, can wear it all day without taking it off) but the Neotec is the king of the modular helmets.
Modular is the best option IMO, especially dual homologated. Open when I'm going slow, closed when I'm going a bit quicker and need the protection. I don't struggle at all with visibility, but I learned with closed face helmets.

@goosehd gotta fit some foam in the earholes

I get a new Daytona Cruiser every couple years since my helmet get thrown around and abused a lot. IMO, they're the best-buy for 3/4 helmets. They're cheap and actually cool-looking cuz they're pretty slim but still have a DOT certification. They're pretty oval-shaped, which works well for my chrome-dome. I find most helmets to be too round. I usually stuff some foam into the earholes to help with the wind noise, but its true, visorless is louder.

get proper customfitted earplugs designed for motorcycle riding. best investment I've made, wish I'd had the money 25 yrs ago. Enables riding old flimsy 3/4 helmets or davida style eggshell helmets like you have soundproof fullface. (fullface helmets don't belong on a chopper)

Here in NorCal it rained like hell over the weekend with plenty of snow in the mountains. So no riding for me. Although the weather didn’t keep Club brother Terra from competing in the North Bay MC Sawmill Enduro. He finished 3rd in A Open and 35th overall out of 150 entered. Not too shabby for a 6’7” 240 pound, 42 year old on a 350.
Anyways, my bike barn ain’t exactly 100% waterproof. So I went out this afternoon to check on the remuda, move some oil around in those motors and clear out the carbs on the antiques. I got a new key fob for the Duc too. Can’t wait until it gets some patina on it. If it catches your eye, check out Malevolent Leather. Sophie does excellent work. Anyways, bike porn to follow:

@injunjack customs are the cats ass for blocking wind noise, they have moldable ones on Amazon now best $30 I’ve ever spent on my bike!

I met Don Clancy today. He’s repairing the seat on my Norton.
He sure has some sweet bikes in his garage:

@SFMCfranky nice collection!! Thank you

My pleasure, Sir.
That XR in the driveway is a heavily modified, vintage, track only XR. Take a close look at the bottom case below the cylinders. It’s at least an inch taller than stock. He did the welding and grinding himself. The bike is plated for
The street too. Super cool. -
Took the Duc out for a putt this glorious, NorCal Friday morning.

-
@SFMCfranky man those are some sick ironheads. Never seen anything like the top end on that black one. Cool rocker boxes and I love how the pushrods go THROUGH the fins
-
I saw this sweet BSA Lightning when I stopped by my buddy John’s today. His shop is called
Sonoma Moto. Highly recommended.
I think he said it was a ‘66. If you look closely, you can see my Duc reflected in the chrome tank.

@SFMCfranky I’m beginning to think that you are in motorcycle heaven. I know they’re out there, but you seem to run across quite a few nice bikes.
This thread has been quite fun as of late with you and @gazza61 contributions. Seeing old bikes makes me smile knowing that they’re still loved.
-
Thanks!
The Bay Area really is motorcycle heaven - surrounded by some of the best roads in the world. Coastlines, rivers and mountains are what makes for great riding roads and we’re flush with all three. As far as the vintage iron goes, the important thing to me is that they’re still being ridden. I’m not into trailer queens.
It amazes me that my 916 is now 31 years old. Time marches on…
Keep the rubber side down, brother.

I asked around and it turns out they came from the factory like that. Not sure when they started/stopped. But here’s a photo of a ‘75

I’m halfway into a 14-day offroad motorcycle trip through Utah, ending in Las Vegas on the 7th. The show is run by an italian company, Balise Expeditions, which partners with Aprilia for the bikes. We are all riding brand new Aprilia Tuareg Rally bikes and they are proving themselves an excellent option for all types of terrain: gravel, rocky, sandy, baby-heads; including short connecting stints on paved roads. I think their strong torque at low rpms and firm, long travel suspension are the stars of the show.

About to leave Moab
That super blue water is due to the potassium they extract from potash mineral in pools around here.
Lookout point over the Colorado river. This is the spot for the Thelma and Louise movie where they drive their car over the cliff.
Typical road and terrain for the trip
Typical scene out here. This is at Valley of the Gods

One of our campsites at Valley of the Gods -

Bikes were shod with Metzeler Karoo 4 tyres and heavy duty inner tubes. They have performed flawlessly at 26 psi front and back
Deep loose sand causing minor tipovers
We had to get this pic at the well known Forrest Gump scene
Beautiful scenery everywhere along these curvy mountain roads -
@motojobobo That’s beyond incredible. Did you do any riding in or around Arches National Park?
