IH-634S-18 - 18oz Vintage Selvedge Denim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
@pechelman meant to add this about the cut! Fuller cut = more comfortable in temps for sure
-
I’m just trying to see how long I can ride my 21oz indigo into spring and summer, then step down a bit lighter. I usually wear 13–14oz in the summer, or fatigue/Baker pants, but I was thinking about switching it up this year and trying something a little heavier.
I was kind of hoping someone would say, “Oh my God, 18oz is incredible… it’s so breathable it feels like 13oz.”

-
@northsouthdenimguy I mean if you’ve been wearing UHR or XHS all winter it would definitely feel like 14oz!
-
See that’s what I’m talking about!
-
@northsouthdenimguy the 18oz vintage is honestly a really beautiful denim that offers lots of subtle character that no other IH denim has. It would definitely fill and fit into any gaps you have in your current wardrobe. It has also become my favorite denim. Been wearing a pair for 2.5 yrs pretty consistently & have 4 more pairs of this 18oz in other cuts, lol. I also live in a warm humid climate year round and this denim is my jam!

-
@RoxRocks86 How are you liking and how would you compare your new SE 19oz denim to the 18s?
-
@wjw I actually jumped on the SExIH 19oz bc they “looked” similar. They’re completely different. The 19oz is noticeably more plushy, stretchy, and textured, very slubby. The 18oz is more flat and crispy when new and the texture is not as loud. The 18oz also feels like it breathes a bit better than the 19oz.
-
@RoxRocks86 they do totally look similar, from internet pics at least. Thanks for the comparison! I was leaning towards getting the 18 or maybe the SE19, but with the UHR news I jumped on those. Looking at one of the other 2 for my next pair--more of a summer pair.
-
Thank you! Great info and definitely what I’m looking for…

-
@northsouthdenimguy I can wear them through most of a British summer, the days I couldn’t I’d be wearing shorts anyway. They fee more breathable than my 14oz, and definitely more than 21oz.
-
Ah yes, the legendary British summer… what is that, a scorching 23°C on a “heatwave” day?

Appreciate it, this is exactly what I was looking for. Just trying to get a better sense of where they fit in.

-
In my opinion, the top 3 summer denims are 16 slub, 17n, and 18oz. The 16 slub is probably the best for summer heat and breathability with the other two not far behind. The 17n and 18oz are my two favourite 3 season jeans and wear them from early spring to late fall, switching to the 21/23 UHR’s and 25oz for the winter.
As mentioned earlier, the fit plays a significant role in comfort with heat and humidity. Looser/baggier fits will feel more comfortable when the heat begins to climb.
Honest though, when it get’s hot and humid the shorts come out. I will wear jeans to a dinner, but as soon as I’m home the shorts are back on.
-
@northsouthdenimguy 18oz is great for summer, 21oz imo is okay, depending on your subjective heat tolerance. 14oz despite being the lightest is too tightly woven to be a suitable summer denim for me. Tl,dr: go for 18oz. Great fades, too
-
@northsouthdenimguy I found the 21oz to way more breathable and wearable compared to 14oz in the summer. Broken twill 14oz unwearable until winter!
-
Thanks to both of you.
I’ve stayed away from the 14oz since that’s what I’ve heard. Plus, I didn’t want to make my embarrassingly large stash of lighter weight denim obsolete, like what’s already happened with most of my heavier stuff. I love IH, but it really messes me up when it comes to other brands. Just too damn good.
-
I have found my 14oz in 634 (loose fit) to be pretty comparable to my 21oz in 777 (tight fit) for heat tolerance.
Would love to hear more comparisons of the 17n and 18oz, especially in breathability. Seems like the 17N doesn't get a whole lot of love compared to the other jeans. I haven't seen them in person, but they remind me of the 14oz but slow to fade and better for summer. While the 18oz seems pretty unique with its texture.
-
@northsouthdenimguy “oh my god the 18 oz is soo much better”. But seriously do breathe better than slub or 14ozib’s so far last summer for me. I was hoping to keep wearing the XHS into may but it’s already 80 today from 40 last week
-
@pechelman do you mean a side by side of the denims? Or a run down of the differences? I had a look through the threads but nothing jumped out
