Suggestions anyone?  The button hole on my 634s is beginning to fray. Giles,  is this something you guys could fix?

Anyone know of a way to prevent the entry from tearing more?  It's not that bad at this point (in my eyes), but I'd prefer to do something preemptive rather than let it wear more.  I've also seen injunjack's repair on this thread, however I'm wanting to actually repair the tear.

Here's a pic of the finished repair…please excuse the sloppiness, it was my first time using a needle:

              Hopefully it'll hold…

                    looks reasonable
but of course if you put enough use to the pocket
to gain the wear in the first place
that repair is gonna go too eventually

you could do a little preventative
and throw a patch over that now
stitch it through and through from the outside
with some indigo thread won't be noticeable (from outside)
                    and will last much longer

mending small holes in Tee shirts.

ok bit of a long post sorry but want to make it real clear and simple to follow [hopefully]
do it as soon as you see a small hole and unfortunately its never an invisible fix.

here is the hole which is about a 5mm hole

Start by choosing the right thread, i like to use as close as possible to the actual material to the garment
I am in the trade so i happen to have indigo dyed 100% cotton thread in the right shade but if you can get hold of any indigo thread it will do the job as it will fade.

the one on the right is a more the more common colour of indigo thread you can buy which is quite dark like raw denim.

2nd is having the right needle.
any sewing needle will do just a nice fine one. if you got a new needle then bend it like in the picture below
it will make your life a lot easier when hand sewing.

                      let start sewing!!
we're doing this on the wrong side of the garment [inside out]
for tees only sew on the vertical as going the other way will cause it to fray more.

take a very small stitch, catching just one thread at a time.
start from the side where the hole is at it's smallest.
going in to the hole and coming though the right side of the garment.

now do the same on the bottom of the hole but going though the wrongs side then coming though the hole.

gently pull it tight as you go across the hole. at the end take one more stitch at the base of the tread and loop
a knot, pull though and trim leaving a small 1/8th of an inch tail behind.

and we're done!! like i said unfortunately its never going to be an perfect invisible mend but it will stop the hole from getting bigger, well for now anyway.

Spent my vacation with an friend who has a few pair.. He wears his Iron Hearts to work. He's worn out the cuff in the shop and had to sew the two halves back together.. Check those Superblacks still dark and an awesome tight weave..
