Anyone here play video games?

I've been (very) slowly making my way through a replay of Red Dead Redemption 2. Then I picked up Gran Turismo 7, so a bit of car racing too.
But my brother recently got himself a Switch 2 and I inherited his Switch 1, thought I'd play some Zelda and Mario. Then I found out 2 of my most favourite games ever are available for Switch, when I thought they weren't available on any modern consoles: Portal 1 and Portal 2! That's me sorted for a while! They were even on sale for AUD$8! Happy Christmas to me.

To echo what's already been mentioned...ARC Raiders.
I'm obsessed.
Never been someone for PvP online games (it's actually PvPvE) but this is a phenomenal gaming experience. I'm only level 20 (75 is current cap). Got so much to do in game, loot, blueprints, workbenches, upgrades, quests and so on.
Community is immense and the game is very solo friendly - often having raiders look after each other when attempting to extract. Game looks and plays so well and there's genuine tension when out in the world thanks to some excellent AI (Arc) enemies. Maps are also very good - and include cold snaps, storms, night raids and other modifiers. The devs at Embark Studios have given us something special here.
The camaraderie is great like I said - but there's always a chance a 'rat' (lol) will shoot you in the back.

PlayStation's State of Play last night was sick.

That Project Windless thing where you play as a giant, humanoid cockerel and mow down hordes looks like insane silly fun. God of War, yes please. Saros looks like more Returnal with the issues with that game addressed, yes please. 007 First Light looks awesome.

I've been trying to get into the Indian Jones game and the Japan AC...nothing is sticking with me. I haven't gotten sucked into a new game like that since elden ring. I had high hopes for DD2 but it was lacking depth. Open to suggestions! I love open world and am starting to get into the fps games.

@EdH What Returnal issues specifically? Looking forward to Saros
-
@gneicher for me, it was a lack of progression between runs, it meant runs felt too random, either I’d find a load out I liked, or I wouldn’t. Suppose I prefer roguelites to roguelikes, so I’m looking forward to Saros having a skill tree, etc. Don’t get me wrong, Returnal is still an amazing game, may try to get back to it and finally get the platinum before Saros.

Anyone here into Skate? I played TH way back in the day and I'm being told this game carries the mantle now... Feedback from the elder millennials in the room?
-
@StarsSuck Yeah, I’m slightly addicted to it – played it on launch and still logging in most days I get the chance

I loved both the Skate games and Tony Hawk series back in the day, but coming from skating/surfing as a kid, always preferred the realism of Skate. This new one doesn’t quite have the same gritty vibe of the originals and lacks any sort of engaging story mode, but the map is fun and there’s loads of cool spots and challenges to find/unlock.
I’ve seen a lot of people bitching that it’s “Fortnite on skateboards”, and will admit that the always online and micro transactions elements are a bit annoying – but for a free to play, I can’t really complain. The micro transactions are only used to buy silly costumes (nothing you do in the game boosts stats or gives you an advantage etc), and I’ve still managed to easily maxed out all current levels, and unlocked loads of fun stuff without spending a penny on it. Definitely worth a download if you liked the originals

@StarsSuck @Freeman entering the chat..

@StarsSuck Its great fun. It doesnt take itself as seriously as the previous games and the controls feel way more simplified.
You should also check session and skater XL.
These are a lot more rewarding once you get the controls down. -
@SamD @Freeman solid reviews all around. I'm going to give it a go. Something about where I'm at mentally is keeping me from locking in on a deep story game. I just want distraction, preferably laced with nostalgia, to carry me through these dopamine-deprived winter months. I don't even mind a decent microtransaction here and there
