I love pretty much everything Bob Mould does so this was good news. Also, if you’re a fan of his I’d encourage you to look up the commencement speech he gave at Macalester College this year.

Not that The Bronx was a hotbed of musical creativity, but of the people in the local bands he was the coolest guitar player. Had a painted SG just like Clapton, and he could play. We had a mutual ,musical, friend who said that some guys were organizing a jam session at a new rehearsal studio, and why didn't I come and sit in. For some reason they told me to go first. These guys were all older than me,and watching them warm up,especially the guy with the painted guitar,I knew I was in over my head. Sad to say I could not keep up with these guys, and was soon replaced. But from that point it was a learning experience, all the guys were nice to me,even the guy, with the painted guitar. And from that point on whenever I saw Paul/Ace I would say hi. The last time I ever saw him he was waiting to catch a bus. I said hi,and congratulated him on KISS.etc. To which he replied...I hate this fucking band,I have to wear all this make up,my skin is all broken out,and we're not making any money etc.,etc. His bus came,I said take it easy, and the rest shall we say is history.

I am not familiar with SRV, but stumbled across this on youtube.

It's jaw dropping, if you are a Hendo fan.

I've seen Buddy Guy do a reasonable take on Jimi, but this is next level.

It's like Stevie knows exactly what the fuck Jimi played, then played it.

Hi @Matt, I know of Stevie, and I know he is name-checked as being a great guitarist, but don't know anything about him (other than he has a brother).

I have Riviera Paradise on a playlist, when listening to new audio gear, but that's about it. I am not familiar with his body of work.

I had not knowingly seen any live footage up until that youtube video.

All SRV listening or viewing recommendations are greatly received!

@Bridger , I recommend youtube for Stevie's 2 visits to Austin City Limits, as well. The first one is in1983. The second, a year before his death, in 1989.

I was at Alpine Valley, the night of his final show. It was quite surreal hearing the news, the following morning...

One of the things I love about SRV are the near mythical stories about his guitar setup. He played these really heavy gauge string with incredibly high action. When you watch him play, his left hand attacks the fretboard with incredible force. I just think it’s cool because normal players couldn’t handle a set up like that.
