I’m a big fan of the 633s 14oz, which I’ve I been wearing heavily for two years. So I just got some 633s 18 oz ones, which run about 2 inches smaller in the waist. I’m a 32 in the 14 oz and 34 in the 18 oz. The waist size is correct on the 18 oz but the rest of the cut is wider and baggier. They're not slim/straight fitting jeans. I know you should always follow the measurements on the site, which I thought I did, but these seem like a totally different cut. I’m just wondering how people buy thicker versions of the 633s that fit when the sizing changes so much?

Measurements on which site @Plant-Life ?

As a general rule cuts in different denims can come up differently in terms of dims. It doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with denim weight, (for example 14oz 666’s are bigger than the 21oz).

I suspect there are a lot of variables at play here. If you’ve worn the 18oz one of them may be stretch. Others include the factories, differences within runs, etc.

Any chance you bought OD 18oz? Those will be smaller bc of the shrinkage from the OD

Am I understanding correctly that you sized up to 34 in the 18oz? That would explain part of why the whole jean is roomier. Even though the measurements may look the same on the site, these are usually published after measuring one or two pairs. My guess is your 14oz 32s were on the smaller side, and the 34s in 18oz were on the larger side.

Also, ymmv but I’ve never found self edge’s measurements to be very reliable.

Excited about this pickup. Tried them on in Portland a few months ago and have thought about them ever since. Jumped on the SE sale this week, wasn’t able to get exact measurements but it seems like it worked out. First ever pair of IH denim, after many tops. Very excited about this 21oz.

@Plant-Life i don’t know if things have changed but it used to be the case that no other retailer in the world was as precise or as organised as IHUK with regards to measurements. While SE is a great store they did not have a great rep regarding that aspect of things.

Also @sabergirl is bang on. Measurements can never tell the whole story. Even one differing measurement is going to skew all the others as you need to take account for what happens between the points measured. The different tag size combined with the points I mentioned is going to give you a different fit, no doubt.

I reworded this to make it in present tense, because I think that it holds true today.

Howdy y’all. Looking for rise some feedback please. I recently picked up a pair of 21oz 633s. For the last few years, I’ve stuck to buying jeans with a medium-high rise. Usually in the 11.5inch range for front rise, and 15 inch back rise give or take. This is where I feel most comfortable. I rolled the dice a little bit with the 633 and as I wasn’t able to get a specific pair from SE, I ended up receiving a pair with 10.75 inch FR and 14.5 inch BR.

Having worn them a little bit, I’m aware of the rise being a little lower than I’m accustomed to, front and back. But as I’m to used to a medium-high rise, I’m struggling to figure out how I feel about this 10.75/14.5 inch rise and whether it works. Generally, I think it’s a good fit overall - love the thigh and slight taper. If they were definitely too low a rise I’m sure I would’ve sent them back immediately. I’ve tried pairs where that was definitely the case.

Just looking for feedback as to whether you think these look in the range of “ok” and that they’ll work out. Won’t be seeking out 10.5 inch rises specifically in the future though.

Here’s my PBJ-019 which has a 11.5/15 rise which I feel very comfortable in.

Also, the only objective problem with a low rise is the risk of plumbers crack. Find a good friend, then bend, crouch and squat a lot in front of them. If there’s a problem you will be told 😅
