@Mizmazzle Mac makes great stuff, but I'd highly recommend going the DIY route if you're at all interested in tube stuff on a budget. Bottlehead makes great kits if you arent otherwised electrically inclined that are easy to follow and they sound fantastic.
-
@Mizmazzle very clean set up. The warmth of a Marantz is so kind to the ears & soul. Here's my set up:
receiver: Marantz 2275
table: Marantz 6100
speakers: Dahlquist DQ-20s (if you're in the Portland, OR area I'm selling these - my wife is over how big they are...lame!!...holler at me and I'll give you a hell of a deal. they sound amazing, drink power and were just refurbished)
-
@pechelman thanks for the info! I’m def wanting to move into a tube set up next. Would be sweet to build my own! Sounds like a fun project! And it doesn’t cost $10k
-
@Inorganic yeah bro!!! Love it!! I agree with your take on Marantz. Also, they are drop dead gorgeous!!
-
Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent record player? Have fallen back in love with vinyl but got nowt to play my old 33s on!
-
@Crispy-Heron what's you're ideal price range?
-
@GraemeE - anything up to £1k. Not sure what the going rate is now!
-
@Crispy-Heron this guy with a decent pre-amp would be a solid setup to get you back in the game

@Mizmazzle @J-IV @endo @Aetas @prpx @68degreesorless any suggestions?
-
@Crispy-Heron My daughter asked me nearly the same question a few days ago.
My answer was a pic. Shure you’ll find out the price range quickly. Starts from right to left.
-
@Aetas -let me guess? The best one is the one on the right and it costs lots!
-
Project debut carbon evo is solid starter table. Moonstone needle is nice upgrade
-
@Aetas - so I gathered when I went into the links! Some great suggestions. Now the difficult bit - what would be the best sound be a range from Slayer to Bad Religion to Nick Cave to The Beatles to Mozart. Hmm.

The best sound is in your soul, and the room and the situation when listening. You can't do anything wrong with a Project or a Technics.

@Crispy-Heron
Literally this is my sound line:
Needle, amplifier and source of output.
Know this could get worse.
(🧆 there is no emoji for Wax Treasure?!).
Better discussed on the Hi-Fi thread I’ll guess … -
@Aetas - you have been super helpful. Thanks. Love vinyl and am sick of listening to music on my phone.

Should have send this words to my daughter instead
.
The sound system is overrated 🫵.@Crispy-Heron said in Wax Treasure (Vinyl):

That’s a great starter budget so you have some options..
For Belt-Drive:
-Rega Planar 2
-Project Evo
-Audio Technica-LP7Direct-Drive:
- Audio Technica LP120
-Technics SL1200
-Thorens TD 402
Whatever money you have left I say you put it into a solid stereo system + preamp system. But that’s for another thread (Hi-fi)
Feel free to message me if you have any other questions. I feel like we can get into a deep rabbit hole with this question haha

Wish I had some good turntable recs. I went all in on vintage gear when I had my vinyl renaissance. I could probably get in on a convo around that side of things.
As mentioned before a Rega or AT is a solid choice to get the records spinning. But most of my turntable and amp/ receiver experience is with old pioneer, Marantz, and Luxman gear.
