I think this might be an Io moth with its wings closed.

Edit: it was! I went outside back where it was and very gently nudged it and it flew, exposing the eye-like lower wings. It was an incredible moment upon their reveal.

It appears to be a male, as they are yellow while the females are brick red-brown.

My turn for a yellow moth (brimstone) and a box tree moth also sheltering in my porch. As I don’t have any box trees I’m happy to let it take its chances (it looks good even if it’s bad).

@Oaktavia quite possibly or it’s the Canadian Tiger Swallowtail. Not sure at the moment.
