@Mizmazzle Nice! Have you booked accomodations for the southwest leg? Would be helpful to know. We've had many visitors from my wife's American family, and we always do a similar trip.

From Dublin, we usually go to Galway for a couple of nights, and then down to the Cliffs of Moher, and back to Dublin. Galway is a great town - vibrant and full of fun. Great food, great pubs, and we usually love visiting.

          Galway

          • Coffeewerk + Press: Best coffee in the city, very cool interiors/gifts store on the 2nd and 3rd floor. One of my favourite coffee shops in the world.
          • Ard Bia at Nimmos: Great breakfast/brunch place. Get there a few mins before opening. It's worth it.
          • Dough Bros Pizza: Haven't been but is a contender for best pizza in Ireland.
          • Pubs: Tig Cóilí - traditional music, and great craic. Very cool spot. Also, The King's Head.
          • Kai: One of our very favourite restaurants in the country. Might be hard to get a reservation now though.
          • Cava Bodega: Great Tapas restaurant. Also need a reservation.

We've had many visitors buy Aran sweaters while in Galway, but not an expert so I'm not 100% sure they're exactly what you're looking for, but I'd be surprised if not. Some shops on Quay street in Galway:

          • The Sweater Shop
          • Aran Islands Knitwear
          • Aran Sweater Market

Have a look into these places and see what you think.

The Cliffs are great - though you never know what kind of a day you're going to get! Enjoy it. But don't get too close to the edge when doing the cliff side walking. There are horror stories nearly every year. Definitely nothing to be afraid of, just be aware. Also, at times the speed limits on small country roads are listed way higher than they should be. Often driving at half the speed limit is what is actually a safe speed. Something to be conscious of.

Unfortunately haven't done the Aran Islands, but have heard it's spectacular.

          Dublin

Not sure how long you'll be here, but I'll list a few of my favourite spots in town.

Not all Guinness is created equal. In the city centre, I'd check out:

          • The Long Hall (incredible pub)
          • Bowe's
          • Palace Bar (in Temple Bar)

In Temple Bar, there's a Menswear x Coffee shop called Indigo and Cloth. My favourite shop in town. While the brands they have aren't really raw denim adjacent, it's a high quality shop, and they serve the best coffee in the city (coming from a coffee snob).

If you're a whiskey guy, The Celtic Whiskey shop is where to go. Great lunch spot, Tang, across the road from there. Right by St. Stephen's Green and Grafton St.

A nice street to wander around is Drury St (right by Grafton). Lots of small, craft shops, the George's Arcade (market), and good eats. Like toasted cheese sandwhiches and French wine? Check out Loose Cannon. On that street, Industry and Irish Design Shop are cool interior/decor stores.

Your concert might be at Whelan's btw lol. A classic small Dublin music venue. Lots of good food options near there (reservations recommended):

          • Las Tapas De Lola
          • Hang Dai
          • Delahunt
          • Pickle
          • Bunsen (quick, easy, fantastic burger joint)

          Other random Dublin spots:

          • Bread 41 (Bakery)
          • Brother Hubbard (great brunch, lunch, coffee)
          • Camerino Bakery
          • The Fumbally (great brunch, lunch, coffee)

If you want to see something other than the Dublin City Centre, Ranelagh (my hood) is a great neighborhood to explore, easily accessible by Luas (tram) from St. Stephen's Green.

I don't want to keep rambling lol. But if you want more I'll be happy to share.

+1 for tig coili in Galway. While dingle is better known for its music scene we had a much better time with easily walking into a great set there. We also thought the atmosphere was a little nicer than some of the dingle pubs.

@americanathreads bro!!! Thanks so much for all this. We will have 3 days in Dublin so these will be fantastic resources for us!! So psyched right now!!
While in Dublin we’re staying in Portobello.

The show we are seeing was originally booked at Waylon’s but was relocated a couple of days ago to Opium Live. Kinda bummed about that as Waylon’s looked really cool.

We leave Dublin and have lodging booked in Ballyvaughn for 2 nights. We then have 2 nights before we have to fly out of Cork that we left open to be able to explore and be flexible. Any suggestions based on that would be really helpful.

@pechelman thanks Phil. Galway was on our list…but I think we opted for very small villages to stay in for some reason. Sounded more idilic I guess. But we might be able to swing a day trip there for sure.

@Mizmazzle For sure man! Ah nice, 3 days is great. Plenty of time to do Dublin well. Knowing you're there a bit longer than I thought, if you really want to check out the best Guinness/Pub in town, John Kavanagh's Pub "The Gravediggers" is probably the pub. Bit further out though, so the other ones listed will be just fine too.

If you're staying in Portobello (good location), I probably would recommend taking a stroll or LUAS to Ranelagh and walking around. There is a Brother Hubbard there, great pubs (McSorley's), and a cafe we love called Nobó (acai bowl, coffee, dairy free chocolate).

In Portobello, a couple of restaurants you could check out:

                                  • Alma (incredible brunch, reservation!)
                                  • Bibi's (brunch)
                                  • Bastible
                                  • Clanbrassil House
                                  • Richmond

Note: for all restaurants mentioned, worth looking into reservations/availabilty. Most you wouldn't be able to wander up and get a table.

Not too familiar with Ballyvaughn, but I've got a restaurant/pub saved called Moran's Oyster Cottage which I've seen recommended a lot, could be worth checking out.

Obviously up to you, but as you're going to be so close to Galway, I think it'd be a mistake to skip it - even for half a day. It's not a big city at all, has great culture, and rarely disappoints. But if it messes with your itinerary, obviously do what you need to do, but just wanted to mention it.

For those couple of open days, I'd look into Lahinch (seaside town), Killarney (lakeside town, with a beautiful surrounding landscape), and yes Dingle, but that might add to your driving time quite a bit with Cork being the final destination.
