@Tobi similar experience before I started using a leather Brooks several years ago. Since then I haven’t worn anything out, though I’ve mostly been wearing chinos not jeans. My Full Count 1108SR are lovely, but I’m going to bet that IH makes a much tougher denim.

I have actual cycling gear (bike racer in semi retirement) but I like not having to change…

The way jeans are constructed with felled seams on the inner leg and crotch makes (serious) cycling in them a serious no for me.

I’ve been commuting in my 21oz 888s for a year now (only 14 km a day though). That’s the time it took to see the first hole in the crotch area.

I’d prefer any denim with stretch for longer commutes.

@RobeOfTheMagi agree. For me: long commutes (or sport cycling on the gravel or road bike): real cycling clothes. I avoid lycra top layers personally for gravel or commute, so sometimes combine a cycling bib with a polyester mountain bike shorts (loose). For short commutes where I do not need to change: jeans or other IH trousers, accepting a higher rate of wear in the saddle area. My smooth old leather Brooks on my Dutch transport bike helps minimize friction.

Thanks all. Wondering about just getting another pair of IH731 or 730…

@JimB howdy. I commute ~60mins/day for 0-3days a week. I ride in my IH-777D's and I pack a different pair of denim should I want to change.

The ducks are tough as shit and I haven't blown out the crotch after years of cycling.

@Giles are there any more duck fabric pants? <--disregard I searched and found my answer, but another question arose - are there plans for any other colour ways for the 777Ds? I saw there are black and ivory duck colour ways

@Alex will know....But, I suspect not. Duck to Haraki's specs has proved to be very difficult to source/make.

                    Hi guys!
I've been cycling to work for over 10 years now. Around 25km. Round trip. 5000/6000km per year. I've tried a number of different cuts and fabrics. Winter and summer. The 633 21oz is definitely at the top of my list. Good thigh room. Short hems. Non-thight woven. A pair of cycling jeans! Definitely. Seriously delays the appearance of damage to the croth area. A pair of cycling jeans!

not currently, but we are looking into other duck to run in general terms, so perhaps, however the 777 is one of the least popular cuts so if the fabric is limited, then it may not make it to 777

@Alex thanks, I look forward to more duck options....mind boggling to me that 777 is one of the least popular cuts?!

@Alex said in IH-1955S-142 - 14oz Selvedge Denim "1955" Vintage Tapered Cut Jeans - Indigo:

The problem is that all our cuts are pretty popular. If we look at total sales of jeans from 2019-2024, the most popular cut in that period accounted for 21.8% of jeans sales. The least popular cut (not inc boot cuts) accounted for 19% of total jeans sales, so it's not like we can safely say "trend is moving to wider pants, lets kill the slim jeans" which is oft suggested helpfully by people on social media.

Ducks are looking promising… I think I’m going to need a 32w though. @Alex are any restocks expected any time soon?

In the wintertime I use the 777-25oz for a indoor cycling system, three times a week for about 45 min with a Brooks saddle . I would lie to say that it is the perfect riding jeans and especially at the beginning it was not really a joy, but now it works good and the crotch area is still looking not so bad
