@Go-For-Chill yeah I thought the sz 36 recommendation from them was nuts and I've been showering the Internet for different size charts of the 888 and every other one led to a sz 34 or 35.

@SlothRock did you still have a little bit of room throughout or was it pretty form fitting?

Brand new there was still some room but it was form fitting in the waist - it’s stretched already so there’s more room in the waist at this point. You want it to be slimmer in the waist on first wear due to stretch. From thigh downward though it was always comfortable and roomier (but not baggy) which is why I wanted to go with the 888’s to begin with.

@Go-For-Chill interesting. I also have all three (tag 34) and my experience is the total opposite.

The 634 is the tightest of the bunch. The seat and upper thigh are painted on due to the lower rise giving less overall volume up top, though below the knee the leg is plenty roomy. Oddly enough they're still very comfortable with excellent mobility despite how tight they look.

The 888 is an odd middle ground. Pulled up properly, the waist and seat are both too big for me, but the leg is one step up from skinny jeans (I tried a 33 and had difficulty pulling them all the way up over my thighs). Worn a bit lower so that the back rise slouches a bit, the leg becomes much more roomy and comfortable, though at the cost of a flattering overall silhouette.

And the 1955 are the loosest of the bunch. The top feels similarly oversized to the 888, but because the leg is wider it looks like a balanced regular/repro fit with some good drape. I also have them in a tag 33 and they look kind of like the model pic on the 21oz indigo product page. Which is to say they're perfectly wearable and comfortable, but the overall silhouette is too slim for my liking.

              Here you go.

One thing to note: the waists are all the same.

@Go-For-Chill sure, but I haven't sized jeans based on the waist measurement in years.

Thigh, rise, and knee (in that order) matter much more for a good fit. If the waist is too big, you can throw on a belt and be fine (assuming you can fill out the seat). If the thigh, rise, or knee are too small, that's a pair of pants that's never going to look or feel good, regardless of how perfectly they can stay up without a belt.

Back in IH jeans after 5 years of going back to mainstream brands for conventional comfort, practicality and style. Becoming a new parent can do that to you.
I had to relearn the stubbornness of the IH heavy-weight denim and the first couple of weeks of break-in that leaves physical marks on your skin. The experience exceeded by far any memory I had of the process.
It took 2 weeks, but the stiff 888-21 pair I had bought - and abandoned - in 2019, have now stretched and moulded to my legs and I’m delighted to rediscover the look and feel of heavy-weight IH denim.
The 888 is a great cut, very forgiving of my smaller waist with larger thighs body type and, unlike the 634s, the seat doesn’t give me the awkward ‘wedgy’ back look (YMMV). The pronounced taper is not my usual preference but I can live with it (I like a more straight leg and bigger opening).
Being familiar with the high stretch property of the 21 oz, I had sized down to 30 when I bought this pair 6 years ago (I’m 6’1” and still 178lbs/80kg today). Wearing and breaking it now, I almost regretted my previous sizing decision. I stuck with it though, and the jeans have thankfully relaxed quite a bit, providing significant gains in breathing room, comfort and mobility in previously tights places (waist, crotch and things). I completely forgot how you often have to work on and earn your fit with IH denim. No doubt, it will relax even more with wear.
Very happy to be back in this great denim. Probably going to wear it until it’s close to giving up, per my usual practice. The experience has also rekindled my interest in the brand so I might gradually dig up my stashed away IH pieces.
Thanks for indulging my post and forgiving this initial crappy pic.
Glad to be back on this great forum / community 🙂

Would anyone recommend sizing from a sz 34 in 888s-21 to 35/36 in the 21od version? It should I stick with the same size?

@DirtyMike619 I’d go up a size in the OD. I tried to go with the same tag size in 555S and 555SOD and ended up selling the OD’s on. They were wearable but weren’t comfortable at all.

Just a question as I’m unsure.

I have these jeans in the OD version and absolutely adore the fit of them. Perfect in every way.

Are the OD versions pulled from the regular version of the same run then over-dyed or are the pulled from completely different stock. Just wondering if I could expect giving these a really hot soak to bring them down to the measurements of the OD version
