If you live in the UK I’d send it in for a repair. If not any tailor could fix this for little cost. I would get it fixed. It seems like it could become a problem.

Any idea what this discoloration could be? I’ve been wearing for about a year and just noticed some discoloration on the sleeve.

@Fishizzle I’m very curious as to what you find. Green items of mine also have that discoloration. Looks rad, but I understand it’s also unexpected.

@Fishizzle I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a few people say that their olive serge shirts have discoloured slightly yellow too.. sorry I can’t explain what it is but it might be worth having a look through those threads and see if there’s more info on it

My green easy shorts have this. Also get it with tshirts sometimes. Not sure why and couldn’t be bothered to look into it.

Probably discoloration from the sun exposure

@Jakederoche I see what you’re saying but it doesn’t feel like that’s what it is.

I’ve noticed it with certain color tshirts near the collar too for some reason. Like browns and grays. It looks bleached.

My favourite summer shirt, green mock twist chambray, has this yellow tint on sleeve aswell. Thought it was sweat + sun, but maybe it's something else

@Fishizzle We suspect it is due to one of the following, but have asked the Japanese for their comment as well

Fabric ageing with time. Exposure to light, air, and environmental pollutants can gradually break down fibres, leading to changes in colour and appearance. This can be sped up by prolonged exposure to sunlight.

When fabrics are exposed to oxygen over an extended period, oxidation occurs. This reaction can lead to a yellowish hue on the fabric.

Other Reactions: Certain substances found in perfumes, deodorants, and cleaning agents can react with fabric dyes or fibres, causing discolouration. Using chlorine bleach on fabrics not meant for it can also result in yellowing.

Improper Storage and Cleaning: Storing fabrics in humid conditions or failing to remove stains before storage can contribute to yellowing.

Harsh cleaning agents or improper washing methods may also cause discolouration.

I had a yellow hue on a t shirt a while back and looked into it and came to the conclusion it was down to sweat and exposure. Yours obviously wont be sweat due to where it is. Any further comments from the Japanese will be dropped in here

@AdamC and others, thank you for the detailed replies. Up to this point, I can check most of those off the list.

Oddly enough, I wore this jacket while in Yellowstone NP this past weekend and perhaps some of the steam coming off the geysers reacted with the sleeve? I mean, it's not like I was standing that close to them but that's all I can come up with. It has never been around bleach or been through the washer.

It is still one of my favorite IH jackets of all time and I love the olive color, hopefully the rest of it doesn't start discoloring. Less than ideal in my opinion.
