Soaking is not mendatory but recommended. There are plenty people who wear them without soaking them. If you decide on a hot soak thr waist will come in about 1 inch max, more likely 0.5 and stretch back to the original measurement within a couple of wears. Whatever shrinkage you will get in the inseam it will not come back. Usually that is about an inch or so. The thigh may shrink 0.5 or less , mine was 0.3 and came back with wear the pressure.

@yannis Thank you for your response. That’s less shrinkage on the thigh than I feared. Especially if there is a realistic chance that it will stretch back. I assume yours don't feel noticeably tighter now than at the beginning?
I read about the inseam and waist. Fortunately the inseam is long enough and I am confident that the waist won’t be an issue. But as the fabric on the thigh and waistband are rotated 90 degrees to each other, I wasn't sure how the thigh would behave.

@Krigga. Every pair that i have gets tighter when it hits water but they go back to how they were after a couple of days of wear. I think you will be just fine. Give them a soak if you like and they will be back to the way they fit now in a couple of day. Having said that soaking is not necessary. I have done it both ways with XHS and there was no difference in the long run. Some people are concerned with creases shifting after washing but mine when back to the same place. Just enjoy them man and wear the hell out of them. The rest is details that do not matter as much as you may think.

@Krigga I got mine on Friday and just gave them a "warm soak" yesterday, there wasn't much shrinkage but I didn't measure, the waist shrunk a little but that's all I've noticed... Now it's Sunday and the waist has definitely stretched back out and is fine. I've read online that giving them a once wash/soak helps get rid of all the starch and dust/dirt from the mills and also helps tighten and strengthen the stitching on the jeans and help prevent future blowouts and issues in the future.
Up to you man, I love these and they're all I'm gonna wear for awhile
-
@yannis I don't want to overthink it too much. I just want to make sure that they are still comfortable after washing. Because whether I do an initial soak or not, I will have to wash them at some point.
Because that's exactly what happened with my first raw denim (Edwin Nashville - sanforised but unwashed): I washed them for the first time after six or seven months and since then they've been so tight around the thighs that I can hardly wear them any more.
It didn’t happen with following pairs, but these were one-washed. And since I don’t have experience with this particular fabric I asked. But your experience gives me confidence that these will be fine. Thanks again!
-
@Jord thanks, that sounds encouraging, too. I think I will keep them.

The cool thing about Iron Heart is that Haraki does not believe in unpredictable fabric behavior. I never had an Iron Heart that became unwearable after hitting water. If your pair fits the way you like right now be confident that it will continue to fit the same. Just avoid the dryer.
-
@yannis well, my last doubts have vanished. I’ll keep em.
-
@Germinal Looking good! Best uncle points go to you
-
First pair of XHS drying yesterday. Today's first day of wear.
-
Got mine this Monday and this is my first new pair. I don't have a bathtub, but is it ok to soak in a smaller "tub"? Do I need to worry about creasers and other unknowns?
-
@Chillberg. I have soaked before in a sink and no diffence.
-
@Chillberg I soaked my 888 XHS in a storage bin then ran on a hot cycle with low spin in the washer and had no issues.
-
-
@Oaktavia I wish I could
-
Might be an uphill battle to get them on, but first soak is now done. 1,2cm shrinkage in the waist
