Wax Treasure (Vinyl)

@Tago-Mago
Going to try to restrain myself here as it’s difficult to recommend a handful of records from masters like Monk, Tatum, and Peterson. Also dependent on what you’re feeling. @GraemeE has some good reccs, here are my additions:Tatum:
- The Genius of Art Tatum (great overview of his playing and virtuosity).
- Art Tatum & Roy Eldridge Quartet (great example of him playing with other bandmates. Sounds like everyone is trying to keep up with him).
- Art Tatum and Ben Webster (two masters locked in their craft).
Peterson:
- Tenderly (kind of his trademark late-night, wine sipping, wandering thoughts type of piano playing).
- Oscar Peterson+One Clark Terry (you add a trumpet in the mix and it’s pretty much a party. This album oozes the blues).
- Romance (most folks don’t know Peterson had some vocals too which may sound similar to another famous crooner/pianist)
Monk:
- Thelonius in Action Recorded at the Five Spot (taste of Monks unique sound and phrasing, live in all its glory)
- Thelonius Monk Orchestra at Town Hall ( a bit more digestible. You see Monks range here with a bigger band and again, all live)
- Thelonius Alone in San Francisco ( my personal favorite solo Monk record)

@Tago-Mago a bit late to this, but here are a few, avoiding the others choices as they're great too
Monk - At Town Hall & With John Coltrane. I'm quite fond of his album of Ellington standards too, and his Blue Note work.
Peterson - Sonny Stitt sits in with, Very Tall & The Sound of the Trio
Tatum isn't quite to my taste, I've got a couple in my selling pile (you'd be welcome to them for free if you were in the UK). There's an album with Buddy Rich and Lionel Hampton that's worth a listen, and a solo one called the Genius of Art Tatum.
