Hey! I'm visiting Tokyo for the first time. Can you (or anyone else) recommend a tacle shop...
Tokyo really is something else. There is a tackleshop larger than decent sized supermarket back home and it's open 24/7.

Grew up fishing lakes all the time. About 10 lakes within 30 miles of where I grew up in the Sierra Nevada (love bass fishing and eating). Haven't fished much in the last 10 years living on the coast without any lakes nearby and never getting good at ocean fishing from the shore. Also never really learned fishing on the rivers. But here is one of my last catches from 9 years ago. Biggest fish I ever caught--22in lingcod from the bay. Caught it on a 6lb test and put up one hell of a fight.

@Giles I love the sensitivity, feel, and balance of a high quality rod. Is that a spinning rod or baitcaster?
-
Spinning. It has a revolutionary guide system which I am itching to try....
https://zenaq.com/en/tech_rgguide/
Very few anglers use baitcasting rigs for lurefishing in the sea in UK. I used to, but migrated back to spinning outfits a few years ago. I do use mainly baitcasting gear for lure fishing in fresh water - have no idea why I favour either/or......

@Giles Great choice, my „dream rod“, same brand: PA 90 Jaw Breaker,
-
@Giles Unfortunately, as I wrote, it's just a dream. Currently, there are only Sportex and Shimano. But if it works out this year, I'll definitely get the RG version with a Stella or Exist...
-
@Giles tempting offer, that I would gladly accept
-
@Giles PerfectTell me how we should handle it
-
My current Bass rods are all made by YAMAGA BLANKS......And I love them, they have worked really hard for me. But I could not resist the RG concept........
It does mean that now I can lend my mates a decent rod when they need one.
I'm going to Omam soon. Primarily GT fishing, but there are some great locations we can fish for smaller fish from the shore, my mate who has no light rods, can fish one of my YAMAGA's. He'll be chuffed....

@jordanscollected whoa!! That dude is massive!
-
@jordanscollected that’s a big one! I’m deathly afraid of snappers. I was traumatized as a kid when my uncle pulled a big one up running a trotline. I’ll never forget the hissing and snapping.

On Sunday at 04:00, I depart for Oman, I will be fishing with 3 of my regular fishing chums. We will be fishing the Hallaniyat Islands, that are about 30 miles offshore of the mainland in the south of the country. We have booked for 8 days of fishing, but the weather is looking iffy and variable, so we may only get 6 days fishing. getting to and from the Islands when there is wind and swell is challenging, to say the least, so we may have to leave early to catch a decent weather window. I have fished the Islands a few times before, but this is the first time we will actually be based there (which cuts out the gruelling 1-2 hours trips there and back), so we should get more fishing in per day, and also we can fish from the shore if the weather is too bad to take the boat out. Our primary target is Giant Trevally, and they love ripping currents over shallow reefs, so wind and waves adds a little to the excitement.
It will be a multi species trip, and could easily catch Bream, Dorado, Tuna, Snapper, Grouper, Permit, Milkfish, Spangled Emperor, etc etc etc. So packing the appropriate tackle to cover all bases and stay within airline luggage limits has been a challenge. I've narrowed it down to 8 outfits ranging from PE2 to PE12 plus an AFTM 7 fly outfit. I have dozens of lure and flies running the gamut of sizes. Which leaves me with about 5kg for clothes and non-essentials like that.
Mini-goal is to catch a Spangled Emperor on a fly.....
Medium-goal is a Dorado on a PE2 or 4 outfit (or fly)
Max-goal is a 50kg GT (on anything)
Ultimate Goal is to break by 60kg GT Personal BestI am stoked......

Sounds like you’re bound for maximum fun @Giles . I’ll look forward to your trip pics!

@Giles I wish you the best of luck!!! Both travels and on the end of the line. Is that new waterproof jacket (from the video) part of the 5kg?
