Everything you think you know is wrong, everything everyone tells you is wrong, at some point your kids will gladly tell you you’re wrong.

It’s not bad though, except for the sleep. I never knew what tired was until we had them.

Another top tip if they offer parenting classes over there don’t book it in for just before the due date just in case, Jacob decided to pop out 6 weeks earlier than was due and the classes were booked for 3 weeks before the due date

@Brian oh wow! We have our classes booked to start in May and into June...I can't remember how long they go but they are well before the due date.

@goosehd I'm hoping that raising two crazy golden retriever puppies a few years ago gave me at least some insight as to what this monumental part of my life may be like.

@Tago-Mago I was just thinking the nice thing about our due date window of 9/20-26 is it was during the same time I was in Europe last year. At work, I was able to establish myself to all the new 6th grade students for the first five or six weeks before I was out. It's a good time line...

There's a bit by a German comedian (yes yes, I know...) talking about how stupid kids always have stupid parents. So you definitely don't have to worry about that part @Oaktavia

@Tago-Mago Haha yes, there is that. WV public schools are not known for their scholarly students though unfortunately. I have a feeling I will be teaching endlessly at home, perhaps moreso on account of this.

@Oaktavia I was going to make a crack about all of the smart ones moved away…but I really give you credit for giving those kids a chance.

The school system was much better when I was growing up, but I know and see how it’s changed. It hurts to go home, so much so that I haven’t been able to go “home” in years. Most of my friends left and moved away…the ones that stayed make me sad

I wasn't knocking anyone's academic prowess, just to be clear. The "stupid" part of the bit was referring to annoying, entitled and obnoxious parents. And I've met plenty of "highly-educated" people that fit the bill

@goosehd I am hoping that the tides turn for the better, but I will not hold my breath. I just feel lucky enough to have been born a Marylander and grew up on that side of the Potomac. Plus, the Maryland border is about two minutes from our house as the crow flies. So we are just barely into the panhandle as it is. I would imagine way down in those hollers it is a much different way of living. I haven't even traveled further than Davis or Morgantown. At least we will have some fun time exploring those areas for future vacations. WV is so naturally beautiful so I am happy to explore the state with my little one(s) when the time comes. I would rather drive into Appalachia than the Eastern Shore of Maryland any day. Fuck 495.

@Oaktavia just make sure if you film a birth video, the camera is pointed in the right direction. I pulled a boomer move and got a selfie video of my reaction to the birth instead of the birth itself
