@Giles sent me this picture the other day of an FG fishing knot. In my eyes it looks damn good and something that I will start practicing for joining leaders to braid.

Thank you. Could be better. A few too many wraps, the braid is better when it has "melted" into the fluoro for the whole length of the knot....

That looks great. But if I am fishing softies in UK for Bass (Sea), I need to fish weedless. I tried one of the Bass Candies last Sunday, and lost it 3rd cast 🙂

                          image.png

And for what I fish for in The tropics, that would get utterly pulverised 🙂

All the Bertox softies have XXX strong hooks (Owners or BKK). The amount of drag I have to use will likely straighten anything less....

I am super intrigued though....Thanks for the heads up....

for weedless plastics i really like this Ikecon worm. the hook protectors work really well to pull through weeds. You do need to make sure you have a swivel on though as they spin on retrieve.

                            https://ikecon.com/fishing-products/ike-con-worm-6-25/

they don't show it on the photos, but they come with mono sticking out so you can just snap onto a swivel hook.

Oh, we're talking new tackle are we. Just bought one of these (in Japan for about 1/2 western price), the S86XX Longcast.

Hey! I'm visiting Tokyo for the first time. Can you (or anyone else) recommend a tacle shop there. I probably do not need another light trout rod, but it's Japan and I absolutely need a souvenir for myself 😃

@Giles wondering if you (or any other forum members) have ever fished for peacock bass in South America? My father-in-law goes once a year to Brazil and it’s his favorite trip. I’ll have to get some pics from him but the fish are huge, they fight like hell, and look truly intimidating

I have not fished for them, but they are on my got-to-do. At some point, the fishing I currently do in the tropics will get too much for me. I fish with mainly 30 year olds, and they literally have to carry me sometimes. So, I am planning what I do when I cant do that any longer, South American rivers and lakes figures high on that list....

@Giles I kind of thought it sounded like something you would enjoy. I’ll try to get some pics from him next time we visit and I’ll throw some up here. He loves the adventure aspect of boating into the remote waters too. He also goes to Alaska to fish for Salmon once a year but I don’t think it’s remotely the same type of fishing

I believe you are talking about fish locally known as tucunare. I’m not much of a fisherman but I frequently hear about it through friends. My understanding is that they typically range from 2 - 3 kg. In Bolivia, they are mostly found in lagoons in the Beni region. I believe lures are mostly used with them.
I’ll ask around for specifics (trip operators, prices, best season, prized spots,…) and feed back if I find anything useful.
PS: I can vouch for their delicious flavor!!!

                                          The journey is the objective.
