@seawolf true, although Happy Days was never a big thing in Germany, at least not as far as I can remember. My main point of reference for Happy Days is Weezer's Buddy Holly music video

I've never seen so many people get so riled up over a topic in this thread before. Kid A is quite controversial! I will listen to it on my way to and from class today. I'm going to really try this time. I'll report back. I'm going into this openly and freely, and I'm not under duress.

I don’t care if anyone likes it, but I had to react to that word being attached to it.

Why do I like it? Well I love weird atmospheric and dystopian music. Stuff like FSOL, Brian Eno, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, etc. it just feels in line with that kind of music, and it took quite a bit of courage to go from a hit album to one that is deliberately obtuse and unpleasant to listen to at times.

                  Think it, be it.

Ahh. Just what I like to listen to. 😂 I'll give it the old college try, and if I end up liking it, or (gasp) even loving it, I will report back, hat in hand and admit I was wrong. It's an album from a very talented band so I will give it the respect it deserves and listen to it objectively and succumb to the music. Hopefully it's not too unpleasant!

Ironically doesn't Radiohead hate the song "Creep". Something about them loathing performing it.

I have that album on vinyl and Creep is on both sides of the album as a joke because of how much people want to hear the song.

I feel like they were kind of self conscious about how emo the song was. I love it and the more rock oriented output of Pablo Honey and The Bends.

i'm not a music critic and this is unpopular opinions...but i will kind of explain myself. it is not kid A example, but, lets take karma police, as the biggest hit they did. you blokes know your music, so you heard sexie sadie before that. nothing wrong with borrowing couple of riffs, of course, but i remember when i heard it first time, after 20 seconds i knew where the song is going, when they're going to change and so on. predictable. i fking love melvins, and when they hit they stride i know how dale crover is going to hit the drums because i'm consuming that for the last 30 years. so you can say its a bit predictable, but it has also kick ass guitars and strange little melodies and vocal lines that makes it alltogether awesome in my mind. you mentioned Eno, who i really appreciate a lot, and i could see kid A as an atmospheric piece, with no guitars and going for emotional charge and whatnots.
when this album was released i was 26, 27 something like that, so it did not sit with me because i was not into that kind of emotions, and when i hear a song for 10-15 seconds and i know whats going to happen, when they are going to change and more or less everything else, it makes it predictable. unfortunate adjective, i should explain better 😀 😀

I'm no Radiohead expert, and my favourite album of theirs is OK Computer anyway. When Radiohead made it big in the mid to late 90s I didn't get the hype at all, and didn't follow their progression in depth after OK Computer. I got into that album during Covid because it resonated with me during that time. The feeling of desolation, loneliness and a general disconnect within society that Thom Yorke articulated in some of the songs felt very apropos at the time
