@Oaktavia yeah, man! My neighbour has over two hundred acres of woods he lets me wander - crazy what I find in there since it’s just me looking. I only take what I plan on eating in the next day or two - leave so much awesome stuff behind. Today was a great day

@Sir_Cuffs-a-Lot that's so rad!!!

This post doesn’t fit neatly into any of the current threads (Gardening…, Insects) so I took a stab at Foraging...
Have a beekeeping buddy and visited him this week as he was busy tending to his hobby. This time around he was recycling wax from previous honey harvests and making new wax panels. He tells me that every year he recycles about 1/3 of the total panels, so usually wax panels are never older than about 3 years.
Starts by heating up the old wax panels in a bucket with a small burner and pouring the runny wax on a German machine

Gently clamps it down,

And opens it after some 15-20 seconds to get a new wax panel

I thought it was pretty cool stuff.

@motojobobo that’s fascinating. Thanks for posting

This is a tasty fruit which isn’t popular nor well known locally. Besides being tasty straight off the tree, it makes excellent fruit juice. It is medium sweet with a nice tart aftertaste. Similar to the fruits on the cashew (caju) tree. I bet it would be a success if used in fruity water-based ice cream. Another advantage is that it grows naturally in sandy, very poor soils. Beautiful color.
Not sure whether having a very delicate outer skin (similar to a raspberry) explains why the market hasn’t picked up on it. Probably spoils easily if not harvested very carefully.

Eugenia pyriformis -
@motojobobo wow thats cool I never heard of those before. Whereabouts are they located?
-
@Oaktavia it is quite widespread around southern South America (excluding higher altitude Andean areas).
Have you been in this area on plant focused trips?
-
@motojobobo no I have not been south of the US border but that would be rad.
