'When I try to drown my thoughts in Gin, I find my worst ideas know how to swim'

'If no one's fond of fucking me, I guess no one's fucking fond of me'

Two lines the come to mind...

The whole premise of Margarita at the Mall is genius too. Using the idea of drinking something that nobody really enjoys in a fake, sterile environment as a metaphore for life is so beautifully cynical.

Love his work with Silver Jews, but this is undoubtedly his magnum opus. It feel weird mourning a man I hadn't even heard of until after his death, but you can't help but feel connected to somebody who was able to so poetically articulate thoughts you've had a thousands times, but never been able to adaqautely communicate.

“𝑁𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑙𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑢𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑑𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑏 𝑦𝑜𝑢. 𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝑖𝑡, 𝑖𝑓 𝑦𝑜𝑢 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑜, 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑤𝑒𝑎𝑝𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑜𝑛 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑚 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡.”

@mclaincausey What do you think about the new Billy Strings album?

I love most of it. I think the production value of his records keeps getting better, and this is some of the best sounding music he's ever recorded from a sound engineering perspective. I also love most of the songs, and I think it's a solid album with a very distinct vibe to it. Truly a masterpiece, and fits so well with the rest of the catalog.

There is no greater joy than drinking 3 or 4 margaritas, going shopping with your significant, and standing creepily in a Victoria Secrets whilst being viewed as such by all customers and staff. Also, it will only be a minute or two is never, and I mean never a minute or two.

@seawolf SD and socal in general seem to get the shaft on hippie music for some reason. We caught an Infamous Stringdusters + Greensky Bluegrass show there last time I was in town at a cool venue that I think is fairly new.

Did you see Gizz out there? Not sure if you’re a fan but I almost came out for that.

I’ll ping you next time I’m out there. I thought you’d relocated to the PNW!

@mclaincausey I saw BS at the SDSU outdoor amphitheater 2 years ago, and he also played the year before, so I'm not sure why he's skipping us this year. Gotta spread the love I guess.

I've never listed to Gizz. Any recommendations where to start? As I understand, they have a deep catalog.

Please do! Still in SD, and I'd love to meet up for a beer or a burger, or both. I know a place 🙂

The question of where to start with Gizz is a difficult one because they are so varied and so prolific. It’s such a big problem that there’s a site to help: https://kglw.net/page/gizzverse-guide

For me personally where I would recommend starting might be Omnium just because it cuts a bit more of a cross section of the styles they do than the more themed albums.

@mclaincausey Well, that's pretty great. Thank you! I read about them years ago and the idea of themed albums reminded me a lot of Ween. So many different genres and all executed fairly well.

I'm traveling for Christmas, so it'll be good to have some new music to try out.

Back to BS for a minute. I have an earworm right now that I can't shake, and I'm okay with it. "My Alice" is haunting me. I love the 6/8 time signature, the melody, and the clever lyrics. But it's so dark!
