@kkibbey23 - The Sky Dweller is an amazing watch. It may be the best traveller's GMT ever made, and it demonstrates how innovative Rolex can be. As far as I know, the least precious model variation is steel & gold. There's no plain steel model.

So, Fratello & Czapek are releasing a new collaboration, the Promenade, with a semi transparent green dial. It's €32k, so massively overpriced IMHO, but is interesting because it shows some of the movement. I've always thought Capek's movement is the most interesting part of their watches, so it's nice to be able to see it on the face side.

Sky Dweller is a technical marvel. I find the dial busy, and with Roman indices, busy to the extent of ugliness. But there’s no arguing the ergonomic and engineering genius.

So many of their watches would look so much better if they weren’t in love with the smell of their own farts. Cut down on the unnecessary text!

@JDelage I've got a feeling that the Fratello Promenade is about twice the price of the standard model. I'm guessing that there's a lot of work in skeletonising the movement, but it's probably not going to cost €16K.

That said, I do like the watch.

Yes, the regular Promenade is 18k CHF.

@Giles damn. The texture on that dial is something special.

@JDelage I own a steel Sky Dweller with white dial. The marketing and descriptions Rolex use are a touch misleading for this particular model.

The entry level SkyD are called "White Rolesor".

For the SkyD the only white gold on these models is the fluted bezel, everything else is steel. Most other Rolex "Rolesor" models have a precious metal bezel and bracelet centre links.

I agree the movement and way the annual calendar is displayed is remarkably innovative. For this reason the SkyD is one of my favourite pieces in their collection. I also like the white dial best as it blends a bit better with the internal display ring and date wheel (@mclaincausey this helps keeps the busy dial dumbed down a little), plus very few white dial Rolex models out there.

Lovely watch but pretty chunky, definitely try before you buy if you have a smaller wrist. They are not a svelte watch.

There is no 'I' in team …............ however there are five in 'individual brilliance'.

Speaking of white dial Rolexes, the best looking model in recent years to my eye may be the white dial OP from a couple of years ago.

@Giles I’ve looked at these GS’s more than I should and have been close to pulling the trigger numerous times.

How comfortable is this watch? Any niggles to speak of? How is the movement in terms of winding and is the indicator directly tied into the mechanism so as you wind the indicator moves? Do you feel that the value to product ratio is there?

I’ve also looked at the Glashutte and Lange’s on numerous occasions. I don’t need another watch and really not a dress watch, but it doesn’t stop me from looking.

Appreciate your thoughts when you have a moment.

                          Thank you. 🙏

No niggles re: comfort. If I don't know whether I am wearing it or not, then I know it's OK 🙂

Winding is fine, as you wind, the power reserve indicator increases. But if you wear it regularly, there is no need to wind anyway.

No idea how to define value to product ratio. If I like something and can afford it, then it's sort of irrelevant. And I don't care about resale on anything I buy, inc this house which we will surely lose money on, I love it for the now, and will worry about tomorrow tomorrow 🙂

And talking Glashutte, I'm Jonesing for this which I can pick up super "cheap" in Japan.....

@Giles you have actually defined the product/value relationship quite well. I’ve always viewed it as if I question the cost ad nauseam, then it’s probably not worth it to me. My other view is would I buy it again tomorrow if needed.

Very much like my experiences with IH. It was difficult to make the first purchase and you can see how that turned out…😂

@Giles the Grand Seiko seems to be a good size on your wrist, and it looks lovely.

@goosehd I really like the newer iteration of the Glashütte Original divers watch, but they are chunky. I reckon that the finishing is better than the similarly priced Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, though they are somewhat slimmer. The "Silver Screen" chronograph looks great on the orange strap, but I suspect that you'll need to be blessed in the wrist department to carry it off.

Omega released a new Speedmaster Pilot. I like it but cant help feeling re-releasing the original version with the Flightmaster case would have been that bit more special.

@Giles exactly my thought. Two timers on a mechanical watch is just beyond the pale for me. Having to deal with 3 screw down crowns sounds hellish
