      @endo It's my dream chair too. I'm going to restore one in the next year. I may have to gather parts and put it all together, but I can handle the wood and leather, and will hopefully be able to make it really nice.

          @seawolf Let me know how it works out. I’ve seen a few people mount speakers inside of cabinetry in magazines and always how they solved those issues.

          Would you open the cabinet doors when listening to music?

          The plan is to keep the doors shut while listening. There's nothing about my space or setup that's particularly great, so I'm not too worried about the little details. I'll do the best I can to isolate vibrations, but there's only so much I can or care to do about it, to be honest.

          @pechelman said in Let's talk Design! Product, graphic, UX/UI, experience, furniture, architecture, etc.:

          It'll be a compromise (a really large one imo) to place speakers inside a cabinet at a fixed width since it's a near certainty that they won't be in the correct position for any given listening room. Similarly, having a vibration source on the same surface as a turntable isn't the best Idea. But getting that perfect soundstage and image is not always what's important to some people and as an audio nerd, I'm cool with that too.

          It's a great looking piece of furniture. What goes in the top right most closed area?

          The fixed width is pretty much on-par with how the speakers are set up now, and it's fine for my purposes. I'm not going over the top with modifications to optimize the sound. I just want a nice piece of furniture to keep it all together and looking nice. It'll still sound good enough. Nothing about my setup is exceptionally amazing, so it'll be fine for my purposes. And my apartment is small, so optimizing space is a much higher priority than having an audiophile sanctuary. And even with the best gear, I can't change the space I live in right now, so I'm stuck with trying to make it look good.

          The top right is a drawer. I figure it'll be a good place to keep remote controls and record cleaning tools.

              I finished this media console/credenza today. I have about 100 hours into this thing, and I'm exhausted. But I'm damn proud of it!

                  @goosehd Thank you!

                  It's solid walnut finished with Odie's Oil (a fantastic product!). Construction tips? Get a good doweling jig, have a good table saw at the ready, and have a combination square that you trust. Also, please, please, please, make sure your boards are nice and flat before buying. You'll save yourself loads of trouble. I'm happy to answer any more questions you might have.

                  I designed this from the ground up, and it really helps to know your desired proportions for meticulous planning. I'll post some pics once I get it set up in my living room in a couple of weeks. I still have to present it at school for finals, and it doesn't make sense to bring it home before then, unfortunately.

                      @goosehd I really appreciate that. I'm stoked that I got to build something so custom for my own needs, and it's going to fit perfectly into the spot it was designed for.

                        @seawolf that is a beauty ! I love the curves in the legs visually smoothing out the right angles in the top parts.

                            @motojobobo Thank you! The legs were one of my favorite parts to build. Somehow everything went right. Did I get lucky, or was my skill improving? Either way, it was a refreshing change from the angular work I'd been doing, and it was nice to spend some time making more organic shapes. And I agree, they offer some nice visual balance to the boxy top.

                            @mclaincausey Thank you!

                              Finally got to take this home and get it set up.

                              @goosehd I ended up buying some acoustic foam for the speakers to sit on inside the cabinet, and it seems to do the trick. I'm not getting any additional noise through the turntable, so I think it's a pretty good solution. The sound is definitely best with the speaker doors off when listening to a record, but when I'm streaming music via bluetooth, I'm fine keeping the doors on.

                                    @goosehd Thank you! Not officially graded yet, but I'm certain it'll be the highest mark possible. I'm one of 4 people out of a class of 15 that made anything worth keeping, and this media console is firmly in the "fine furniture" category, so I know I'm safe.

                                    @Mizmazzle Thank you so much! This project awoke something inside of me, and it's quite literally changing the direction of my life. I'm applying to grad school to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts in woodworking and furniture design. I'm so stoked!
