@goosehd it’s not paper – it’s the inside of one of the porcelain panels. I can’t really read it but they’re all marked so I’d guess a mixture of source, and info identifying which panels go together and what goes where.

While this piece is technically referred to as a "watch" I think this is the more appropriate thread. It is a large Patek Philippe pocket watch called the Calibre 89.
It measure 88.2mm diameter, 41mm thick and weighs 1.1 Kg / 2.4 lbs

This is the prototype piece made in the late 1980's. This one has a yellow gold case and can be found in the Patek Philippe museum in Geneva. Four pieces were made in 4 different case materials, pink, white and rose gold and a platinum case. These 4 watches were released in 1989.

33 complications on this watch, 24 hands and 1728 individual components.

The Patek museum in Geneva is definitely worth a visit if you have any kind of interest in horology. An incredible collection of Watches, clocks, automaton and jewelry.

If you are lucky enough to have a Patek on your wrist while in Geneva, entry to the museum is gratis.

Back after a short interlude and currently living one hour in the future.

Personal interest: this belonged to my grandad and I almost killed it when I was about 3 (I was stopped from pulling it off a shelf just in time).

Forum interest: I was lucky enough to chat with the legendary Filthy about this after he saw it one UHHH.

Technical note for Dennis (apologies if too basic): The pennies and card lifts are to keep it level and in beat.

Needed to regulate a couple of pendulums today and remembered that at least one person likes seeing the insides - in both cases I removed the bell for access.

@ARNC Love it…do you use and apply any lubrication when you’re doing your routine maintenance? Any special oils needed?

@goosehd I leave that side of things to the pros - best to completely disassemble, clean, check for wear and reassemble before lubricating, which is way beyond my ability! I can cope with unhooking the pendulum, raising/lowering the bob and repeating as necessary and with basic set up (e.g. making sure it’s in beat).

Edit: Like almost everything, you can avoid a whole lot of shit if you understand the limits of your competency!
