@scooter I enjoyed the Penelope and I find MGP to have a low success rate. I do enjoy most Whistlepig but anything but Piggyback is pretty expensive. If I can’t find Sazerac, I go for Michter’s or the Turkey. Haven't had Michters in a hot minute though.

While, Whistlepig can be pricey, I'm usually on board with anything priced $10/year aged. I got the 10 year for $90. It's pushing it, but it's just under. Anything 12 years and older, I'll go to $15/year.

As far as other ryes go, I like Rittenhouse for cocktails, and as @Jett129 has already referenced, my daily will always be Pikesville. I've kept a bottle on my shelf for years, now... long before I started chasing Bourbons.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

That’s,in my opinion, a really delicious bourbon. Maybe it doesn’t get the credit it deserves because it’s a blend.

Tried this for the first time tonight. Drinkable is a word that’s sometimes used to describe beverages such as this. Local liquor store had it on sale for $60,which is ridiculous. I’ve had a few of The Oceans over the years, and always felt, like you were paying for the story. I know I’m paying for a story with this one as well, but I feel as if I’m at least breaking even.

The $60 price point gets you a lot of good options, and I usually see it for around $80 in my area.

@WhiskeySandwich I’ve seen this one for $80 as well, and would not have dropped that much money on it,but it’s a rye,was double barreled, one of them was toasted, and they got me. Fortunately I ended up being very happy with my purchase, which isn’t always the case. I think it’s way better than the bourbon versions I’ve had.

@Jett129 ahhh, i have been on a Rye kick lately. Maybe I should try something new. If i can find it for the price you did, it's on. Otherwise I'll probably try one of the several other 'new' ryes that I've seen around lately.

What was y'alls take on the New Riff?

@WhiskeySandwich I’ve had the New Riff bourbon and it was solid. Definitely itching to try some of their ryes. Pricing is reasonable, but I’m guessing they’re probably on the young side, although I think I saw a 6yr somewhere.

@Jett129 @WhiskeySandwich New Riff rye is one of my staples. Tastes vary, but I think it’s good enough to drink on its own and I prefer it to Rittenhouse or Sazerac for mixing.

@ARNC @Jett129 I'll have to give it a try. its in the price range that's easier to experiment on. I don't really to cocktails except juleps and O.F.s and both only on occasion. My spirits gotta be able to stand on their own for neat sipping. Sazerac is one of my go-to's, simply best bang for the buck at MSRP. The other great thing about a reasonably priced drink, is that you don't feel obligated to enjoy it 'pure', and don't feel guilty about mixing, especially if it's not the best neat. I'll def have to try Rittenhouse too, I see it around a lot.
