I went a size down from a Western uhf and got a large when they first hit the outlet. It can still layer over a flannel but I wanted it to fit slim'ish for layering under a type 3 or just wearing with a tee. It's got a bit of a "technical" fit this way other than the fact it's cut a little shorter. Haven't worn it much but looking forward to it on cool misty pnw winter days.

@Fades-for-future Here we are and the fit couldn’t be better. Man that is an underrated piece. Light as a feather, but still has that certain IH sturdiness.

This chatter is weakening my resolve….erm…how did you go about sizing @weftyarn? Went for a loose or trim fit? Same tag size as your uhf shirts?

                The journey is the objective.

@motojobobo i tooked my uhf size wich is XXL, in other shirts or tees i'm an XL. I couldn't be happier cause i can wear a hoodie underneath wich is great for colder days and i even can wear just a tee underneath and it looks not too big or anything...

Yup I went tts to my UHF size (XXL) as @Fades-for-future suggested. Sizing down would have been impossible for me (too tight forearms & too short body). Sizing up would have been possible I guess, but then it probably looks a bit sloppy worn over a tee.

I see me wearing this as a spring / autumn layer over a tee or longsleeve / thermal. As you can see the 14Oz hoody fits under it too but it gets considerably tight in the forearms. If you plan to wear it like that sizing up is probably the safer bet. 😉

I have to add that im closer to 3XL than to XL in UHFs so that maybe explains why @Fades-for-future can wear a hoodie under his 2xl more easily.

And as always: the size chart doesn’t lie 🙂

there are too many "it depends" answers here; are you actively moving, sitting still waiting for something, layering it, only over a t-shirt, is it raining or humid, windy, etc? Still, for me, it's useful anytime it's 60F or below as it can get pretty warm with just a t-shirt.
With only a t-shirt and for a casual walk somewhere, I'd probably be good down to freezing or so in it so long as it isnt ultra windy or raining.
Layered under something it would probably be ok down to the teens in F for me.

So basically, I use it about the same as a 14oz hoodie but when i dont want the bulk or need a little extra warmth in the drizzle.

fwiw, keep an eye on the length, these are cut a bit shorter or more "athletic" i guess compared to a 14oz hoodie. My torso is a bit shorter and I wanted something that didnt hang down too much below a jacket, so this was perfect.

@aboath i'd say i would wear it with a hoodie or a uhf underneath at around 5 degrees without freezing much... But this is just me😉 i have worn it now with a 1600 underneath at around 10 degress and a bit rain, can't complain about anything...

I'd like to wear this jacket in the fall weather of Wyoming (temp range between 25F-50F rain or shine) wearing something like the 1700 underneath while walking the dog, running errands, etc. . Sounds like this parka might be perfect. Any other considerations or insights? Thanks @pechelman @Fades-for-future

@aboath , I used to live in CO for a while and would say this is a perfect outer-layer for most winter days for that climate with just a t-shirt or thermal under it. It would be reasonable to wear for bluebird skiing day too. Again, take note of the length of the garment as it could result in a few chilly drafts around the bottom hem, especially when sitting or bending over, if you're taller. This will definitely trap and retain more heat if you're active compared to the 14oz just due to it breathing a little less and being more windproof in comparison.

@aboath this jacket punches above its weight for sure. The temp range you are describing is perfect for this coat. It has plenty of wind resistance and heat retention, and the dual zipper makes it easy to open it up for some ventilation. you won't regret this jacket it's great. I wear my N1 vest over it when it gets real cold and extend the temp range too.
