Matt's New Mexico (Formerly Airstream) Adventure
-
It only took us 4 hours to get on the road yesterday. Obviously that process will need some fine tuning. Overall, it was a good trip. Thankfully our destination was only 2 and a half hours from my father in law's place. Any longer and we would have been in over our heads for our first adventure. The Ford and the Tin Palace traveled well with no real hiccups to mention. Driving over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was about as harrowing as it got.
For months now Katie and I have been planning and researching how to back a 30' travel trailer into a campsite. We don't have any "pull through" sites booked until we get to Mammoth Cave Nat'l Park in the fall. I'm not going to say it was the work of seasoned veterans, but we got it in there and it didn't totally destroy our marriage. The kids were exhausted from listening to podcasts and not doing anything useful all day so they both melted down intermittently throughout the evening. Today we'll explore the campgrounds mostly because it's too god awful hot to do much else. There's a lake here with canoeing/kayaking, a nature center and various trails. We also have a pretty good pamphlet on all the other state parks in Delaware (which is the size of a small nudist colony and the people here are about as attractive) so we'll be checking them out over the next 2 weeks. It might be too hot for the beach for a few days so we'll try to get there in due time.
I'll start getting up pictures throughout the day and as we begin to explore so watch this space.

Delaware is a fine state to drive through without stopping.

Your wife looks like a nice person @Matt. A few miles of Kommissar might change that.
Well done.love the photos. It's beastly hot there this week, maybe a Leaving Delaware sign next.
OC MD? A charming little seaside town
Airstream is the shit!

And away you go! Looking forward to seeing your adventure play out. Here we begin every road trip with “movin right along” from the muppets.
